Chapter 141

When we arrived at Polis, the Azgeda that was guarding the entrance almost had a heart attack when they saw almost a hundred men and women armed to the teeth with the best we had in our armory. Despite being scared, the guards stood their ground, praying that their courage would be more than enough to scare us away. Sadly, for them, I wasn't in the mood for this pointless stand so before the Azgeda could even realize what happened to them, all six of them fell to the ground, shortly after they were hit from the side by some rather potent tranquilizer.

"Cuff them, just in case they woke up before we finish what we were supposed to do here."

"Give them a break Leon. These idiots were just guarding the entrance. I don't think there's a point cuffing them."

"There's Bellamy. I might not be the smartest here, but even I can see why Leon wants them cuffed. Think about it, when we get back with our friends and these guards are to be awake, won't they stop us? Or even raise the alarm, putting them town after our heads? Besides, even with all of our guns, if the grounders get too close to us to use them, the fight will end in a massacre."

While Bellamy and Sergey were talking, I took my walkie-talkie and tried to contact Clarke, hoping that she would still have hers. A few seconds later, she finally answers.

"Leon? Is that you?"

"Do you know another madman that would come to save you?" How are you guys holding up?"

"We're safe, but things are worse than I thought. I'll explain when you get here."

"Clarke, I have an army with me, ready to rescue you if needs be, so tell me the truth."

"We are safe, I truly mean that, but the whole city would turn into a battlefield. Come to the tower, I will explain everything. And Leon, please don't kill anyone if you can, we are not murderers."

No Clarke, we are worse than that…

Even though we were kind of the enemy of all grounders thanks to what we had done to Azgeda, Trikru, and so on, most of the warriors feared us while some even respected us. Because of that, we didn't have any problem reaching the tower, but when we stopped just short of fifty meters away from it, the Azgeda warriors freaked out, fearing that we might attack them when I ordered everyone to prepare themselves and even some using sniper rifles aim at the tower where the sentries were being kept.

It didn't take more than a few minutes after we arrived for Roan itself to come out of the tower followed by no less than twenty warriors. The Prince stopped ten meters away from us before he decide to confront me.

"What do you want Leon? Do you want a war with Azgeda?"

Instead of answering him, I looked up where I saw Clarke and Miller looking down at us. Even though I could barely see her face, I was more than sure that our princess was panicked seeing our two sides facing each other in this city that might turn into a battlefield eventually when all of the grounders find out that there's a way for their people to survive the Praimfaya.

"No Roan, I'm not here for war, at least not this time. With Praimfaya coming, I could care less about your people, but alas, you have some of my friends locked up there and I want them back."

"And if I don't agree to let them leave?"

"Then the city will get a way paint job. You, out of all of your people should know how this fight would end, and let's be honest, you and I have a lot in common despite hating each other, so what do you say about putting away our differences and working together for the last time, after all once Praimfaya destroy everything it won't matter what we were."

"Is Echo alive?"

"She fine, heck if you agree with me, I'll even let her free."

For some reason, the prince's eye went wide open when he heard my words, before he barked a few words to his guards, creating a path for us to the tower.

"If what you said is true then I can let you and two of your soldiers meet with Clarke, but nothing more than that. Frankly, I don't trust you, but despite being one of the most dangerous foes Azgeda faced, you always said the truth."

I didn't say anything to him, instead I together with Bellamy and Zoe walked inside the tower, leaving Byrne in command alongside Sergey. At the same time, Byrne let Bryan know that he could kill Echo if either one of us gets injured inside the tower, otherwise, she's free to go once we return to our people.

Once we reached the floor where Clarke and the rest of our friends were being kept hostages, Clarke took us toward a room.

"Let's go to the balcony to talk. It's more private there than here."

Neither one of us had anything against it so we simply followed her to the balcony, and as soon as she was sure that no grounders were anywhere close to us, Clarke explained to us what happened after they became hostages. Long story short, a war almost started between Trikru and Azgeda, but Clarke tried to stop the war by trying to become the next commander, however, Roan managed to stop her right before the Ascension. After he was sure that she won't become the next commander, the prince proposed a Final Conclave, where the winner gets the bunker. But that wasn't the worst news that Clarke gave me, not even close. What almost made me turn around and leave this place, was the news that Raven was dying thanks to whatever A.L.I.E did to her brain. Rather than letting me know the truth and be with her in her last moments, she chooses to keep me in the dark and take one last spacewalk before she dies.

"I know that this is a hard choice for you, but please don't abandon us now. Once the fight starts, the entire city will become the battlefield. The will be no time limit, and no guns allowed and only one warrior from each clan will fight until only one remains standing."

"And the winner's clan takes the bunker, just like that?"

"That's true Bellamy. Besides, let's be honest, other than Leon, none of us could win without guns."

While Clarke was brainstorming for a solution, I looked outside the window, when out of nowhere, the sound of hoof beats clapping on the stone become audible through the city. Just as I was wondering what crazy bastard will ride into a warzone, I saw the familiar horse of one of the most dangerous people after me riding down the street towards the tower. She stops just below the balcony before she smiled at me. "I'm here for the war."

Hearing her answer, I could only face palms myself, not understating why Octavia would ever want to take part in this shit show, especially when we already have a place to stay and survive the Praimfaya. Then again now that she's here, I could give her the burden and leave for the island, before that idiotic and smart girlfriend of mine does something stupid.
