Seeing it was just the two of them Zhao Xing began to speak. "Actually it's not too hard to guess what I'm about to tell Fifth Miss."
Lu Man brows creased, "What happened?"
"That day I indeed saved the Crown Prince, he was surrounded by so many assassins. At first I didn't have the guts to go out of my hiding. The prince was so brave he managed to subdue the enemy to a great extent along with the few guards by his side. I thought everything would go well since they were so strong, who would have thought that when everything calmed down and they were about to flee with the Crown Prince, someone would send an arrow flying towards him, the Crown Prince looked so young I thought it would be a pity for such a young man to die, and so I stepped out of my hiding, I wasn't expecting the arrow to hit me instead…"
Lu Man didn't know why Zhao Xing was telling her such a long story what did this have to do with her being a victim?
Zhao Xing noticed the impatience on Lu Man's face, but still continued.
"I had fallen unconscious, when I woke up I found that I was no longer in the woods where the incident had happened, instead I was in an unfamiliar place, that I soon realized was the residence of a mayor in a small city down south. There the Crown Prince took care of me. Then, I didn't know the identity of this man, I just thought he was very kind." Zhao Xing continued to observe Lu Man's expression.
"Until it was time for us to return to the capital, he told me that if I wanted to have a good life, I would have to return to the capital and prove that he had gone through assassination."
Hearing this Lu Man's eyes widened.
"That man! Is he still human?"
Zhao Xing nodded. "The rest of the things…I don't dare tell Fifth Miss. But if I can't protect myself, I'll surely lose my life. So whatever you do to me won't hurt the Crown Prince at all, it would only make things worse for me."
Lu Man nodded. "This time the Crown Prince has really gone overboard."
Zhao Xing didn't feel guilty at all, after all she was telling the truth about being a victim. She wouldn't be stuck in this world if not for the Crown Prince. Zhao Xing rejoiced inwardly, she couldn't believe she managed to trick her with just some words. Well the credit mostly went to the fact that Lu Man already believed the Crown Prince wasn't a good person to begin with. She wasn't worried about the Crown Prince, Lu Man would still hate him with or without her. She just had to save herself from future problems.
Zhao Xing had talked until she was thirsty, she would have to drink a lot of water later. She was also hungry.
Lu Man looked her up and down. "Tch, you're actually so weak and you still dared to talk to me so brazenly just now"
Zhao Xing stared at her as if she was stupid. "When did I say I was weak? That time I was poisoned if don't agree with him I'll still end up dying from lack of treatment ok?" She could lie, and she was very good at it. But still, she just told a very sad story so Lu Man wouldn't bother her in the future, how come she was now attacking her by calling her weak?
"Hah, is that it? From what I see you're probably just blinded by riches."
"Who isn't blinded by riches?"
And the two continued to argue once again. The conclusion of the whole thing was that, even though Lu Man still hated Zhao Xing for humiliating her in public, she wouldn't bother with her any longer because of what she had learnt that day.
Zhao Xing that as from today there would be no more deadly banquet awaiting her. At least not from Lu Man.
Zhao Xing thought it was really funny. Before she was worried about what was to come, when she did come, she worried about messing up and hid from the crowd. In the end everything had happened and she was still alive. Lu Man didn't have her killed, that was good enough. If she had died here today then...she'd better not imagine it.
It wasn't long since Lu Man had left, and Xiao Qi entered the room. She eyed her suspiciously.
"What did you tell her?" She looked very serious, Zhao Xing felt like a criminal being interrogated, but she didn't give in to Lu Man, how was she going to let Xiao Qi step on her.
"I'm not telling you."
"You..!"
Zhao Xing raised a brow as she stared at her, "If you wanted to hear so bad you should have eavesdropped, it's not my fault if you don't have that much of common sense."
Xiao Qi listened to her speechlessly. She couldn't do that, because other than herself, the other maidservants stood outside. Their eyes were especially set on her, so she decided against doing anything suspicious.
"Noble Princess Madam Tang is here."
'Huh?'
She had left all of those guests behind, she didn't expect for the next person to visit her to be Madam Tang.
...
"Noble Princess must have been frightened just now." Madam Tang came with Tang Rongyi, her daughter. Even by just sitting where she was her presence filled the room.
Tang Rongyi silently sat beside her mother, looking uneasy.
Zhao Xing shook her head with a smile, unsure of how to respond.
"Well, I'm thankful nothing serious happened." She said this then turned to Tang Rongyi.
"Noble Princess must be wondering why the sudden visit? It's just that Yi Yi is such a stubborn girl, always running around with her uncle. But these recent days she has been acting rather strange. She doesn't plan to leave the capital any time soon, nor does she want to do anything silly anymore. When I asked I discovered that she recently made friends with Noble Princess. Noble Princess has greatly influenced my daughter, I'm very grateful."
Zhao Xing: "…?"
Tang Rongyi: "…"
When did she, Zhao Xing influence people?
Tang Rongyi gave her a sign that said she should just go with the flow.
"In the future, I'll send Tang Rongyi to your place more often, she has to learn good manners. All these years I've been worried sick about her. I was thinking such a wild girl as herself, who would agree to marry her in the future? Even if she did marry, what would become of her in her husband's house?"
It turns out this was the reason she acted so amicably towards her. She was sondering how she had gotten into the good books of such a big shot.
"Noble Princess, Madam Yang would be leaving soon and asked if you wouldn't mind her sending you home." A servant said at the door, interrupting the discussion going on inside.
'She was already leaving?'
