Zhao Xing didn't respond to his question. She had never been in a situation where she had to talk other people into protecting her. It had been something so natural before. But this world wasn't like that.
Meanwhile, Zhang Zhangyang was wondering what to do with the crying little girl. He had never even had to coax his nephews, since childhood his sisters didn't dare cry in his presence. How could he know how to coax her?
He paused his thinking when he realized what he was doing. Why did he have to coax her?
He had rejected many brave women and seen them shed tears miserably. He hadn't cared much, and just thought they were annoying. He didn't have to stay here and watch her cry, he could simply leave. He was sure he hadn't said anything to make her cry.
He remembered before, she had once locked herself up because she was upset, then he also didn't know why he had to care. There was no way she was going to leave his side until she was done with her mission to help him. That was why she had been so obedient from the start.
Though he thought all this, he couldn't bring himself to walk away.
He calmed down and opened his mouth, "Were you really scared? I really told you not to come out and stay hidden, next time be obedient and listen."
Zhao Xing nodded though she still didn't raise her head up, but it was enough for Zhang Zhengyang, he continued to speak hoping his words would stop her from shedding tears. "In the future you'll be under my protection, and not the other way round, alright?"
Zhao Xing heard this and slowly looked up at him. Her face was red and her eyes were swollen. She hadn't made a sound just now, one wouldn't know that she cried so much.
Zhao Xing looked him up and down, he was always sounding so confident, the her right now despised seeing him like this the most. He was so high up, even if his life was threatened time and again, it didn't change, yet she was like this, and feeling hopeless. Was she going to become a pushover for this guy so she could stay alive? No way! She'd rather die.
"Tch, I'm so stubborn, not easy to protect."
Zhang Zhengyang was relieved, "Is that what you were worried about?"
"What nonsense! How could I be afraid?"
"Then why were you crying?"
"…" Zhao Xing didn't know how to respond for a while. But she was a professional liar, it wouldn't take her long to make up lie even if a knife had been placed on her neck. "Isn't it because of the wound?" She pointed to her right shoulder. "…I'd make a scar…I don't know if it would remain even when I return to my world, then I wouldn't be able to explain to my mother…" What she didn't say was that she was unsure if she would be able to return to her world.
Zhang Zhengyang's eyes softened, "Don't worry, this prince won't let it leave a scar."
Zhao Xing wanted to hit him, but had no strength, she could only glare at him. "Always being overconfident, what magic are you going to use now?" It's not like they could take her to the hospital for special treatment, and heal the wound completely. The wound was deep and had pierced through her shoulder, it would be hard not to scar.
Of course she had read a lot of stories that talked about ointments that could remove scars, but she would prefer to believe that her ancestors were aliens form space than believe something like that could exist in the world she was currently living in.
Zhang Zhangyang chuckled, "There's a lot I can do that you don't know."
"Heh" Zhao Xing scoffed and rolled her eyes.
Though she was awake she still had to recuperate, the wound was serious it would be inconvenient for her to continue to travel.
But Zhao Xing insisted she was alright.
"There's no need to delay any further."
"You should recuperate and wait for the wound to heal properly." The Crown Prince tried persuading her patiently.
She refused to stay in bed and would rather go about walking and exploring. It was a good thing she was obedient and took her medication diligently. But she was stubborn and wouldn't rest. It made taking medicine look like a joke. Why take them if you're not going to rest and let it take effect?
Zhang Zhengyang felt his hair would grow gray from dealing with her. The worst thing was he didn't know how to punish or threaten her, she seemed to have gotten more stubborn than before, he wondered if the poison hadn't affected her head.
In the end he complied with her wish and soon their journey resumed.
