I wonder how old the mc really is, I remember at the start of the book someone(was it Maxwell?) said his grandfather remebers what great deeds he has done which suggests that his time of glory happened 2 generations ago meaning he could be in his 80s or even above 100. As for him looking young I don't think Alvar is mortal as he said he doesn't need sleep.
What do you think of enchanting stones? although similar with what i said about imputing spells in magic stones, these one works like insta buff for weapons armours or one self? like buff scrolls, consumable yet in a more defensive way than simply throwing pre stored spells. Also, if he gonna do forging, maybe make said enhancments permanent, Smth like a fae. Also, anyone who wanna see a "mecha shift weapon introduced, imbued with magic" like rwby on steroids? (if you eanna do this, make him forge a mechanical, not flesh-y sparda)
Personal opinion ahead!!! : I think that if you are going to inscribe spells into magic crystals, you should have the magic have a slightly more mechanical or mathematical feel. For example, inscribing runes or spell components in different orders to achieve different spell effects. like a water bullet might be divided into, type of liquid, amount of liquid, temperature, speed, momentum, shape, etc.
