Chapter 169: True kings (2)

3rd person POV

"Zachary West..." Vardan muttered as he is watching first years A class from afar "to lure him out, I can capture their newest and weakest member, but that will easily lure him out, but that would means also facing the youngest ranked when I'm past my prime."

Vardan was a very well known ranked in his prime, but he chose to retire and asked the 13 gods to remove his name from the list, he was ranked as 6th then. But people questioned him when he chose to retire, why did he choose to do so when he had at least a decade left to be least a top 100 named, but he could never answered them.

He had an urge inside of him, something he's been facing all his life when he was forced to kill fellow raiders, he wanted to eat them, and he did, once in self defense when he was alone and was faced with a lone assassin, and he couldn't stop, he ate everything, the skin, eyeballs, the brain, only the bones were left.

And one of his clanmates saw him, he was forced to stop them and killed them, but he felt guilty and stored the person's body in a warehouse freezer, he felt guilty that he had to kill them, and he tried to forget it, but he couldn't.

He covered up the murder properly, but he still goes to the warehouse regularly to decide whether he should turn his friend back to their family, and he once got a sniff and he couldn't stop himself, people of the 13 race taste great to him, nothing else taste good to him anymore.

And his favorite was the heart, and now that he's retired and kept a relatively low profile, as long as he lives here, as long as no vampires are the victim, he can continue his delicious meals. The urge he had has consumed him, he knows it, but no one can stop him, not himself, not his family, no one, and he will satisfy it no matter what.

And now he was faced with a person more powerful than him, even if he's retired, he was more than sure that he can still fight equivalent to a ranked a couple more times in his life before he loses all of it, he can fight an 11th ranked and just a regular named combined, he was more than sure of it.

But to do that, he first needs to isolate them, and once he figure that out, he will kidnap Cordelia, the easiest way to lure them out.

Cordelia POV

I have a weird tingling in my spine, it's one of those moment sixth sense moments where I feel and know that I'm being watched, I know my class is being watched all the time and observed, but this is weirder than usual, it's hostile and at the same not.

I know I'm safe since I'm surrounded by the top guards working for the royal family and guards for some vampire nations, but still, I felt really uncomfortable and I told Emma about it.

"I see." she replied "People might just be jealous of you, our class are some of the most hyped up prospects, so be careful and trust your guts, I'll help keep an eye out if that will make you feel more comfortable. A raider shouldn't always depend on their guts to make decision, but you should at least listen to its arguments and advice."

Perseus POV

The king told everyone to stand up and not kneel anymore as he then started to talk about the heart ripper. The authorities are getting a lot of criticism, the royal family are now getting involved too since guests of nobles are attacked too, it's similar to attacking the nobles themselves, and the news that people having the strength equivalent to the potential 100...it scared them.

The tourism economy of the vampire race has dropped significantly and a lot of vampire have moved or considered to move out as they no longer felt safe there, people are taking this seriously and are now hiring many clans to help and protect different law enforcements for smoother investigations.

And the clan of 'the Raining Gold', the ones who is publicly acknowledged by the queen of the nature spirits, it's a good clan to protect the main investigation force who are the most attacked despite being the best and strongest.

Of course, there's that thought in my mind that the culprit may just someone with an inside job, someone is the least thought as the culprit, maybe the king, he was a former named who was high on the list in his prime and I can still feel like he can release the same output a couple more times if his life was on the line.

"I'm curious, royal father." Xary chimed in "What is the true kings that you talked about earlier?"

"Of course you don't know it." the king sighs to Xary's disappointment "Amongst the millions of people born into life, one of them will be like him, they possess the ability to make people follow their command against their will, they just need to inject a bit of mana into their words with the intention of command, then like you you earlier along with everyone else will follow the order.

"These people are called the true kings." Lorron explained "They are very rare, people misunderstand the concept that they are ones with the mentality to dominate and rule over others no matter what, and they will stop nothing to achieve it , but that's wrong, they just possess the tools and talent for it, whether they choose to pursue it or not is up to them, they can be lazy or the worst person in history, but that does not disregard their talent for it."

"Wow, flattered." I whistled sarcastically "I possess more talent than I thought."

As he was talking that I can see a small red glimpse outside the window of the castle, a familiar red light at the direction where Lia was at.
