Chapter 38: War of Hearts

The events that occurred over the next few days were all parts exhausting and no parts interesting. The castle was so fluttered with gossip of what had happened between Josiah and Malik that I was sure it had gotten out into Colkest by dawn. As scandalous as it was, most held the conclusion that Josiah was the victim—as was right.

Sias and Simona did all they could to keep Malik and Josiah away from one another. Now that I was back in Avar, I also did good in making up the time Josiah and I spent apart. I went out with him to the village, visited his estate, and even took the rightful trip into Virling forest to visit Madame Morana.

This second trip we made to her cottage, caught us in the pleasant company of her godson and the child’s mother. Josiah walked with the two out in the back garden—Madame Morana and I watched from inside. I smiled fondly as I saw how gentle and parental he was with the child.
