Danger everywhere

Chapter 9 Danger everywhere

(Have not been proofread)

My heart is really startled as the feeling of danger coming from within that dark mist slowly becomes stronger. I knew that something from within that void is staring straight at me.

But I did not have time to stop and check things out. I am frantically climbing the walls of the 2-floored inn towards its roof.

As soon as I reached the roof, I quickly darted towards the edge of the roof where I have already noticed that the black mist is thinner in that place.

Swoosh!!! Swoosh!!! Swoosh!!!

However, within my Spirit Eyes, I saw a series of arrows flying in my direction.

I did not dodge as I know that the arrows are headed towards the black mist.

My heart is pounding like crazy though as I was truly startled by those arrows which seem to be glowing.

Boom!!! Boom!!! Boom!!!

Shriek!!!

Followed by the loud explosion below, my heart was stirred as I heard the cry of some kind of creature from the black mist.

Then I saw soldiers and in the middle of them is a sedan with a haughty-looking person sitting while glaring at the black mist.

"Get out of my territory you foul evilness!" the haughty man shouted.

I did not know who that guy is, but the way the people are treating him I could deduce that he holds some importance in this village.

I quickly kept my figure low atop the roof while I watch the group chase after the black mist.

Using my Spirit Eyes, I tried to pry upon the arrows of those people.

From what I could see, they seem to be using some kind of chemical that releases Ether particles upon contact with the mist.

"Hmm… Is the black mist afraid of Ether particles…" I thought while watching the scene below.

When the group exited the 50 meters mark of my Spirit Eyes, I stopped watching and turned my attention to Yan Xhiling.

"Big Sister, are you okay?" I asked after determining that nothing is wrong with her.

Though I only know basic first aid and healing, I could already tell that she was not hurt that badly.

Ugh…

She moaned as her eyes slowly opened.

"What… What happened?" she asked as her face showed confusion.

I have already taken off her mask so she seems to feel a bit confused right now.

"Where… Where are we?" she asked while her gaze landed on the dark sky.

"We're on the roof…" I reply with a wry smile.

"How… how did we get here?" she asked as she quickly sits up.

"I drag you up here to escape that black mist…" I replied while checking the ground.

She checked the surroundings and heaved a deep sigh.

"We should go back down…" she said as she slowly picks herself up.

Sensing her direction, she did not hesitate to jump and grab the ledge of the wall. She slowly rappels herself down like a monkey holding onto those small ledges of the windows.

I followed behind her and did the same.

I actually could have jumped down but I think it would look like I'm a show off. I did not want Big sister to think that I am a show-off.

The two of us landed on the ground and enters the inn. What we saw is a bit gruesome as we did not expect that the black mist would make a mess of the people staying in the inn.

After we got inside our rooms, I suddenly heard some people talking inside one of the rooms.

"How did the black mist enter this deep in the village?" said a man's voice.

"I think Shaman Lao Hai is not taking his job seriously… I mean, we all contributed to his reward, right?" a female voice with a hint of complaint enters my ears.

I curiously penetrated my Spirit Eyes in the room and what I saw made me feel a hint of curiosity deep in my heart.

Two naked bodies are lying on the small bed with only a piece of blanket covering their lower parts.

I could not help but feel curious about what those two are doing. But deep inside of me, I also have an inkling about what it is.

But of course, I did not want to be nosy and decided to retract my sight.

Soon, I heard some commotion outside and saw the soldiers going around with some villagers in tow.

They seem to be gathering the corpses everywhere.

Knock! Knock!

Big sister Xhiling came knocking at my door at this time.

"Come in!" I called.

The door opened and I saw her already carrying her stuff.

"Big sister, are we already leaving?" I asked in confusion.

"No… we will stay here until tomorrow. I need to visit someone in this village first." She said as she put down her bag.

I showed confusion while looking at her action.

"I will be staying here just in case to… protect you." She said while her face showed a hint of a blush in them.

I did not know why she thinks I needed protection, but I did not think about that deeply and just nodded my head.

I lay down on the bed.

But then I noticed her taking out a blanket and putting it on the floor.

It seems that she also brought the blanket and the pillow from the other room.

What she did next startled me though.

She suddenly leaned down and carried me to the ground.

"Be kind to this elder sister and let me sleep on the bed…" she said with a smirk.

I was dumbfounded but then I did not mind as I wanted to have a shut eye and did not want to argue with her.

As I closed my eyes, I quickly saw my stats.

Host: Fei

Age: approximately 10 years old (according to bone density)

Strength: 500 kg

Reflex: 200 kph

Speed: 100 kph

Ether: 3

Status: Bound Soul… Primary Immortal

Abilities: Heightened senses (intermediate), Enhanced muscles (primary), Exoskeleton (primary), Blood Manipulation (primary), Spirit Eyes (50 meters)

I noticed that the Ether category rose by one. I did not know why, and I even don't know how Ether worked. But this has already made me curious.

Looking at the stats in front of me within the voice of my subconscious mind, I feel confused. I already knew that I am different from the people around me.

This started when I met Big Sister Xhiling.

Others seem a bit… weak.

I mean, if I truly exerted my effort and deliver a strong punch, I am sure that I could kill anyone.

Plus, their speed is a bit slow in my own opinion.

But of course, I could not generalize things as I know that I have not seen the world yet. Who knows… maybe there are people far stronger than me out there?

The next day…

After breakfast, the two of us walked towards the part of the village where I could see many tombstones.

As we enter that area, I noticed a couple of people standing in front of a small mausoleum.

"Eh… Sister Xhiling! Is… Is that you?!" a woman wearing a cyan veil and robe exclaimed while walking towards us.

I did not expect that Big sister would know these people.

"Little Xin Mei? You little rascal, what are you doing out here? I thought you have entered the Falling Cloud sect?" Yan Xhiling showed surprise on her pretty face.

"Hihi… I came out with my senior sisters…" the young woman named Xin Mei explained while pointing at the two cyan-robed women behind her.

"Junior sister…, you know… this soldier?" asked one of the women with her calm voice as she holds an aura of elegance and grace.

"Senior sister… This is the person I grew up with. She was also chosen by the sect before, but she did not enter because of her… circumstances." Xin Mei explained.

"Hmm… I see…" the woman just said then turns and walk back to the people behind them.

I let Big Sister Xhiling talk with her friend and I just stood beside a tree.

While I was feeling a bit bored, I noticed a figure dashing toward our group.

It looks like a young man wearing an old shirt and pants.

As he reached the group in front of me, I heard him say something interesting.

"Madam! I have news…" the boy said while catching his breath.

An old woman nodded her head and a middle-aged man beside her gestured for the boy.

"Quickly say your report!" the man said with annoyance in his tone.

"Yes… Yes… Umm… Shaman Lao Hai said that he proposes to hunt down the creatures in the black mist… Because of what happened last night, he decided to end things once and for all…" the boy reported.

The people around him have their expressions changed as they heard the report.

I did not know why they showed a hint of annoyance and fear in their eyes, but I did not want to pry on those things.

What I wanted to know is… how that shaman person would get rid of the black mist.

I wanted to know how he would be able to do such a thing. If the dark mist could not affect my Spirit Eyes, then I would not be interested in such a venture. But since that thing can stop me, then I should know how to overcome it.

In the future, such knowledge would be of great help to me.

I mean… though I could not really die, I surely would not like to experience death. The pain and the anxiety have always caused me some emotional damage and I would like to prevent such a thing in the future… if possible.
