"If you two tell mom and dad that I am here, they need to understand that they can't come for me," Theo said in that depth that only an Alpha could reach. "They need to understand all of this—everything Penelope has told us. They need to know that I am not in any immediate danger. The royals will not kill me if they need Cora. It will hurt her too much."
Penelope pressed her lips together. What Theo said was truer than he likely knew. This was complicated indeed.
Cora's mate created an important vulnerability for her. Ambrosia could use Theo against her just as they had used Penelope against her. All it would take is a simple threat against Theo to get Cora to do what they wanted—to destroy who they wanted—and if they wished to eventually kill her, Theo was the perfect way to do that.
Theo was a fail safe, and there was no way Ambrosia would give that up now that he was here. In a way, he was just as precious as Cora was now.
