Alina's eyelids fluttered open, and she woke up slowly, quickly scanning the basement around her. The cold of the still air seeped through her flesh and froze her bones.
She felt the icy feeling flood her arms, but it was not from the basement's unforgiving temperature. Lifting her gaze, she saw that her wrists were still bound together by chains to the chair.
Realizing that all of this was real, she gave a quick tug, but the chain hardly gave. Regret flooded her aching body from the punishment it had already endured. Although it wasn't much, Alina was sure that there was far worse planned for the future.
She knew that she needed to find a way out of this situation before any violent actions escalated.
As she winced in pain, a grimace spread across her face. She heard the faint sound of the chains clinking from the links rubbing together, and her stomach throbbed with a dull pain.
