Chapter 21: Greetings

In a few hours, there is a congregation outside Maverick’s mansion. Alpha Horace stands proudly with Luna Marie, dressed in their finest silks. Angela stands next to me, toward the back, her tablet mercifully put away for now. And me?

I stand just behind Maverick, dreading to greet the ‘maybe-Luna’ upon her arrival.

Pack affairs move quickly, and Soleil Harris and her retinue have already been prepared rooms in Maverick’s mansion. I’m not sure where in relation to all the guest rooms she will stay and I’m torn between wanting to stay to be the annoying third wheel and avoiding her completely.

“ETA five minutes,” Angela whispers behind me. I notice, as I look over my shoulder, that she is checking her watch. Five minutes feels like an eternity.
