Mom’s the one who finds me once Maverick leaves, sitting on the couch doubled over with my hands in my hair.
All I can think about is how fucked everything is. Has been, since I became beta all of a few days ago.
I have no idea what I’ve gotten myself into.
But it’s my love for my king, my friend, and my pack that will keep me in this position and do it to the best of my severely lacking ability.
When Mom’s arms wrap around my shoulder, I lean into her. Her hand rubs up and down my back in motherly comfort.
“Do you want to talk about it?” she asks.
“No, not really.”
I’m sure everyone heard Maverick use his Alpha voice, or at least felt its effects. My wolf is still cowering in the back of my mind.
“Cayden, listen to me,” Mom pulls me out of her embrace, forcing me to look at her, “you need to let him go.”
What?
Her eyes hold no room for discussion. Whatever she’s about to say, I don’t want to hear it.
