Chapter 67: Rewop

"Don't you have anything to say? After all, you've been trying so hard all this time." Sora asked the silent alien.

He had been silent since Sora had opened up communications with him, refusing to speak a word.

"Huh. Maybe his voice box isn't working." Zatanna joked causing Brainiac to frown.

"Lowly human. You dare make fun of me?" Brainiac questioned in a demanding tone.

"He speaks. I was beginning to wonder if you were glitching out. Maybe your software is getting a bit outdated." Sora commented lightly as he sat on the other chair in front of the monitor.

"For someone with intelligence high above the average human, your behavior is unbecoming and disappointing." Brainiac said in a somewhat disappointed manner.

"Sorry to disappoint you but I really don't care what you think of me. We both know you want something from me so spit it out." Sora said as his casual glance turned serious.

Brainiac was silent for a moment as his frown grew, his anger at the 'disrespect' he was being shown becoming apparent.

"Such insolence. I do not need anything from you. From my research on your planet, you have amassed such an unusual well of knowledge for your age. I simply wish to study your brain and it's potential. Your permission is not required." Brainiac spoke with such superiority, making it sound like he was doing Sora a favor.

"Is that so? If you want something from me you'll have to come and take it from me. That doesn't mean you'll have an easy time doing it." Sora said calmly with a threatening edge in his tone, causing Brainiac's eyes to narrow.

"We're both smart people, let's talk this out. You consider humans inferior compared to you. If you truly believe that, why don't you come and get it yourself." Sora taunted, playing on his pride.

"Trying to play some kind of trick on me? A futile effort." Brainiac said condescendingly.

"No tricks. You claim to be superior to humans yet you're afraid to do the work yourself. A cowards move." Sora taunted with a smirk.

"Like I stated earlier, your efforts are wasted. It is beneath me to fall for such taunts." The alien spoke with confidence.

"No matter how you word it, it doesn't change the fact that you're nothing but a big bluff. The mighty Brainiac is too scared to face off a human child." Sora said in a dismissive tone as Brainiac's growing anger became visible.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In the deserted and sandy lands of Bialya, Zatanna floated calmly above ground level. Sora's attempts to taunt Brainiac into coming down to earth on his own accord was barely a success.
He had given up on that front and took a different approach. He had spoken to the alien, tugging at his inner collector/inventor.
A battle of the 'greatest minds' as Brainiac had called it. Brainiac was already on his way and Sora had already given her a task to perform. A task she would complete to the best of her ability.
In the considerable distance in front of her, she could see a dot which she knew was Sora waiting for Brainiac to arrive.
There was a distorted section of air above Sora that she could just barely see getting closer to the ground.
'Here he comes.' She thought as the distorted space in the air shimmered as a large skull shaped ship with tentacles extending out of it revealed itself.
A figure slowly floated down from the ship towards the far dot that was Sora. She could just barely see the features of the figure as it descended, confirming that it was indeed Brainiac.
She watched as Brainiac descended, along with the multiple drones that shot out of the ship after him.
Taking that as her cue, she dispelled the cloaking spell that she was under as she pushed forward in a burst of magic.
She crossed the distance in a few seconds, a tiny blue trial behind her. She now floated just above where the descending Brainiac and Sora stared at each other.
Immediately pulling on her mana, she raised a hand as a large blue barrier appeared around the two, isolating them from the surroundings including the drones as they were trapped outside the barrier.
She could feel Brainic's gaze on her back as the barrier was erected. The drones being locked away from their creator/master, turned their attention to her.
One of the drones fired a laser at her only for her to easily dodge it, tilting to the side as she floated. As the laser passed her, she thrusted her hand forward as a beam of pure magic shot forward, tearing through the drone.
Another laser beam shot towards her from the side but was blocked by a blue shield of magic as a blue glow surrounded the attacking drone.
A powerful force was exerted on it as the magic folded it like scrap metal. The drone was now nothing more that a flat piece of metal yet the energy surrounding it didn't cease, instead pulsing a bit.
Being controlled by Zatanna, the now rectangular piece of scrap began spinning at speeds faster that the blades do a helicopter as it shot into the crowd of drones, slicing through them like a hot knife through butter.
She showed a smirk as the drones were being culled as they exited Brainiac's ship. She continued tearing at them for a while but the ship seemed to produce even more with each drone she destroyed.
Pushing backwards in the air, she put some space between herself and the incoming and attacking drones.
With her left palm facing towards them, she tugged on her magic as a small ball of energy began forming in front of her.
Of course the drones didn't give her time to prep her attack, firing laser beams to interrupt her. If the drones could feel emotions, they would be in shock as the laser beams were sucked into the ball to energy.
The blue ball of energy transformed as it now gained the destructive element of fire, growing in size until it was as big as Zatanna.
The drones that tried to get in close were sucked into the growing ball of flames and incinerated while any beams were absorbed.
She was only barely affected by the heat as it melted and destroyed any drone in her immediate vicinity.
Clenching her outstretched palm, the large hall of flames condensed, becoming no smaller than her fist. She then turned her hand, her palm now facing up as the condensed attack floated above it.
She gained a glint in her eyes as her smirk turned dangerous, puckering her lips as she blew a bit of air on it.
The condensed ball of flames slowly but steadily flew towards the crowd of drones that had yet to cease their onslaught.
The drones at the forefront of the charge dodged the condensed ball of flames as it came, continued their charge but Zatanna didn't look worried, still floating confidently with a smirk still on her lips as they approached.
Just as one of the drones got close to her, an unfortunate drone just barely touched the condensed attack. The slight touch was enough for it to go off as it exploded with a loud sound, immediately expanding in size as it pulled the surrounding drones to itself.
The machines had no choice and were immediately pulled into the powerful explosion. None were spared as they were incinerated with no trace left.
The drone in front of her, being the farthest away tried to fight against the pulling force. It managed to struggle for a few seconds as its laser cannon flared up as it aimed a shot at her at point blank range.
"Cute." She said with a small chuckle as she flicked a finger in its direction, a telekinetic force pushing it back into the still booming and burning explosion.
With a snap of her finger, the still occurring flame implosion/explosion ceased to exist as it died out.
She waited a few seconds but the skull ship didn't release anymore drones. She looked down into the barrier to see Brainiac glaring at her. She turned her gaze to Sora, blowing him a kiss as she floated down to the ground below.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Sora who was sitting on a rock he erected watched with a small smile as Zatanna descended to the ground.

The green skinned brainiac turned his eyes to Sora who didn't let the smile leave his face.

"I recall our agreement being to meet alone. My drones are an extension of myself and therefore do not breach that agreement." Brainiac said in his usual cold tone that Sora could interpret as a complaint.

"I don't see the problem." Sora started as he got to his feet as he continued.

"By that logic, Zatanna being here doesn't breach our agreement either. After all, she's an extension of myself." He finished with a cunning smirk.
