"Okay, okay alright, gosh." said the waiter as he could not believe that he was being threatened by a boy who looked no older than ten.
"That's what I thought." said Ethan as he smiled smugly.
"But even if I wanted to get you chocolates and juice, and that's a big IF, where would I even get them?? I don't just carry chocolates and juice with me everywhere I go." said the waiter in frustration, he was on duty right now and he did not want to keep on wasting his time with this child, but there was some adults around so he couldn't speak rudely to him or else he would get in trouble and be reported to his superiors.
"Correct me if I'm wrong but there's a store outside and you can go and buy some." said Ethan.
"No way kid, there's no way that you are going to get me to go away from my job to buy some chocolates for you and your little friend, I might lose my job, no scratch that I will lose my job!" he refuted getting annoyed now, what sort of bad luck did he have in order for this little boy to choose him to trouble out of every other waiter here.
"Well you won't lose your job if you accept an order from the boss's daughter who gave you the job in the first place." said Ethan.
"Look, I have nothing to gain by lying to you and nothing to lose as well, you on the other hand can lose your job for not doing me this teeny, tiny favour." said Ethan as the waiter uttered something inaudible but it was clear that he had spoken a very bad word.
"Alright, even if I was to leave here and go buy you what you asked for, I don't have any number, unless you plan to give me money?" asked the waiter.
"Stop lying, you have money, don't think that I didn't see you getting tips from the guests here and there." said Ethan with an innocent smile as the waiter resisted the urge to strangle him.
"If you go and get me the things I want, I will make sure my dad pays you for every cent you spent, and I give you my word. My name is Ethan Thompson and I'm rich, so you can trust me." he said with a smile.
"Oh wow, do you think that I'm stupid or what? If you're a rich kid, you should definitely have some cash on you." said the waiter as he scoffed.
"Hello, I'm ten, do you really think that responsible parents would allow their ten year old to be loaded with cash?" asked Ethan as he raised an eyebrow at him.
"You make a fair point." said the waiter as he nodded.
"Glad we agree, now are you going to buy the things I need or what?" asked Ethan as the waiter groaned in frustration.
"Fine kid, but if I find out you're lying to me, you're going to get it bad." said the waiter as he wasted no time and turned around.
"We have a deal, and oh don't forget to bring me the receipt, thanks." said Ethan as the waiter scoffed and he walked back to Joy who was still sniffing and looking sad.
"Don't worry, you will feel better soon, chocolates fix everything and make you feel better." said Ethan.
"Is that true?" asked Joy.
"Well no, but it is sweet and a bit of sugar will lift your spirits, so cheer up." said Ethan as he smiled as Joy just looked at him.
A few minutes later.
The waiter had made a quick dash to the store and made sure to return quickly just in case this strange kid was playing a prank on him.
"I better get my money back." he huffed under his breath as he saw the menacing kid and the crying girl who was being tended to by a large tall man that did not look pleased at all.
"What happened Joy?" asked Charlie in worry, he had decided to come up here and look for his date who he feared was a no-show when he suddenly saw Joy and Ethan and Joy looked very sad as if she had been crying.
"I...I..." said Joy as she found it hard to explain without crying again.
"Some mean kid threw balls at her head and it was very painful uncle Charlie." said Ethan.
"Awww, princess, I'm so sorry, where's that mean kid, I ought to teach him a lesson or two." said Charlie angrily as he hugged Joy.
"No uncle Charlie, Ethan already made him apologize and he ran away." said Joy as she sniffed.
"Then why do you still look so sad?" he asked in worry.
"I don't know..." she said.
"You don't have to worry uncle Charlie, I already asked one of the waiters to go buy us some chocolates and orange juice, look, there he is right over here." said Ethan as he pointed to the waiter who had been standing afar of in the distance.
As soon as Charlie turned to look at him, he froze in a mix of panic and fear, he felt like he should run away, Charlie looked really menacing and it scared the waiter to death, he was about to turn around and run away but it was too late, Charlie was already standing right in front of him.
"Ahhh... sir, is there anything I can help you with?" asked the waiter as he chuckled sheepishly trying his best not to look guilty of any crime, which he wasn't.
"Is this the guy?" asked Charlie as he turned to look at Ethan who nodded and took the small shopping bag from the waiter's hand as if checking the merchandise to make sure that he had got what they wanted.
"Yep, it's him and he got what I asked for, thank you." said Ethan as he smiled innocently and the waiter felt himself getting sweatier from how nervous he was.
"You're welcome little boy." he said as he tried his best to smile properly but it looked forced.
"My name is Charlie White, and that's my niece over there, thank you for going out of your way to help her." said Charlie sincerely as the waiter sighed in a mix of shock and relief, so the annoying kid was actually telling the truth.
"Ahh, it's no problem sir, I am here to serve aren't I?" asked the waiter with a smile as Ethan scoffed inaudibly.
"So how much do I owe you?" asked Charlie as he brought out his wallet.
"No, no sir, there's no need for that at all, I'm just doing my job." said the waiter as he smiled feigning modesty as Ethan scoffed.
"No, your job is to serve at this event and not to go out of your way to get something for my niece, so I owe you." said Charlie.
"No, no sir, there's no need for that I insist." said the waiter as Ethan had enough of all this pretence.
"Uncle Charlie, the receipt is right here." he said as he handed it to Charlie.
"Here, and some extra for your trouble, I insist." said Charlie as he handed the money to the waiter who initially looked like he was going to refuse by Ethan shot him a dirty glare warning him not to continue with this farce of a good attitude, they both knew the truth.
"Thank you sir, really, thank you." said the waiter as he smiled and collected the money and Charlie smiled as he and Ethan walked away.
"I better get out of here." said the waiter as he walked downstairs, he didn't need more trouble from Ethan.
"Here Joy." said Ethan as he handed her a chocolate bar.
"Princess, are you okay? Do you want to come downstairs with me?" asked Charlie as Joy shook her head.
"Why not? Do you feel better here?" he asked as she nodded.
"I want to stay here with Ethan." she said.
"Well alright, cheer up soon okay?" asked Charlie a she gave her a kiss on the forehead and she nodded.
"I'll see you later Ethan, thank you for looking out for her." said Charlie as he smiled.
"You don't have to thank me uncle Charlie, she's my friend." he said with a smile as Charlie smiled.
"Take care of her, I'll see you two soon." said Charlie as he smiled and walked away.
"Do you want to go and play on the slide?" asked Ethan as he looked at Joy and she shook her head, looking still very sad.
"Alright, then let's just go sit somewhere and eat this." he said as she nodded and followed after him.
Ethan sighed to himself, so much for him thinking that he could enjoy this evening without having to be a babysitter, he should have known that if it was a party organized by the White family, Joy would be there and for some odd reason, time and time again she continued to cling to him.
