Chapter 24: His Absence

I woke up the following morning to Ruby informing me that I was back at the workhouse with her. Everyday like clockwork, I got up early and went to the workhouse and came back late at night and collapsed on my bed.

When I was working, I found myself watching the door, hoping he’d come barreling through it. But he didn’t. It had been five days since I saw him.

Everything was back to normal but it couldn’t feel more wrong. He returned to his Alpha duties with the pack and I was back in the workhouse. Even the wolves were starting to get used to me. Now instead of picking a fight, they mainly just ignored. I had even entertained the idea of picking a fight just so he would come to break it up.

“Wuro!” Dana screeched, getting my attention.

“Sorry, what did you say!” I asked, apologizing.

“You’re putting it in the wrong pile,” she said, pointing at the pile of clothes that were all mixed up in comparison to her perfectly color coded pile.
