The list for the auction went up at eight with the event beginning at nine. Bull came down at eight thirty to help Reed and the bouncers set up the stage. He glanced perfunctorily at the list then did a double take and went roaring down the stairs to where Reed was setting up the microphone.
“You knew about this, didn’t you?” he roared at Reed.
“Knew about what?” Reed asked him calmly.
“About Jamie going on the auction block.” Bull didn’t lower his voice.
“I only found out late this afternoon when he told me he wanted to participate,” Reed told Bull, who looked at him mulishly. “He specifically asked me not to tell anyone. He didn’t want to be the subject of any more gossip. He felt after the situation with the two of you, his name was linked to enough gossip to last a lifetime.”
“What kind of contract is he offering?” asked Bull.
