“It’ll take a couple months to heal right,” Carson, the city policeman who had escorted her back, observed. “I got shiv’d a few years ago. Still bothers me when it rains.”

“Thanks a lot.” Cam looked at the stiff-backed cop who was waiting with her for the paperwork to be completed on her transfer. “Now I can always find a job as a weather vane.”

At that moment, Spellman emerged from her office and handed the papers to Carson. “There you go, signed, sealed, and delivered. Give my regards to Lieutenant Erickson.”

“I sure will.” Carson put his hat on and strode out of the office. Spellman turned to Cam.
