Gulping down the rest of his coffee, Evan said, “Sure, I’ll be here, too.” He nodded goodbye to Nessa and quickly followed Danny out of the kitchen.

Evan dropped Danny at the office and headed out of the city. He had one more potential client to visit in the opposite direction from where he’d traveled in the last few days. The route led him through some hilly country where the road cut into the base of the mountains. At that time of day, there was no traffic, so Evan let himself inch the speed up, smiling as Danny’s sleek car responded effortlessly to the curves.

On a particularly sharp grade, Evan slowed down. As he did, an SUV appeared behind him. In the rearview mirror, Evan watched as the vehicle sped up and drew abreast of him. Was that idiot trying to pass on a blind curve?
