Chapter 7: Family time

When they arrive home it was almost 6.00 pm.

Bai Yi Chen put down the bucket inside the kitchen first, he will prepare it later.

"Xiao Ling, you go help Xiao Mo and Fang Fang clean up first. Gege need to talk with your sister."

Bai Yi Chen said, give Bai Yi Yang a look and sat down at the head seat of the dining table.

"Oh."

Bai Yi Ling look and wink at her sister then run to the main house to call her two younger sibling to take bath.

Bai Yi Yang saw Bai Yi Ling meaningful look and smile. Seems like Bai Yi Chen words is rules here at home.

Well, with Bai Yi Ling description about the old Bai Yi Yang, she rarely say anything so it is natural that she is the type that follow the lead.

Bai Yi Yang obediently sat down at the dining table and didn't say anything.

"Are you really feeling well? Just tell me honestly."

Bai Yi Chen sigh. He want to get angry but he doesn't know what his siblings did wrong.

Going to the river is not something that worth getting angry with, what more even Doctor Huang said that Bai Yi Yang is healthy.

Then should he get angry at her for making transactions with strangers, isn't it good for their family? Maybe he is actually just angry with himself because he cannot provide for his siblings.

"En. I am very healthy. I won't joke about my health, if I am sick then I won't dare to step out of the house."

Bai Yi Yang said earnestly.

Since Bai Yi Chen doesn't sound angry, then she also pick up her courage.

"Then what is the matter about the 47,500 yuan transactions?" He ask again.

Only god knows how shock he heard the amount of money that Boss Sun is going to pay to Bai Yi Yang.

He stepped out just now because he doesn't want her to be cheated on, but it is really real.

Boss Sun transfer the money just like that into his account.

"I got lucky and caught a rare fish, then Uncle Yu saw the fish before posting the picture to his friend circle. They bid for the fish and agree with a price of 3800 yuan per kilo. I also don't know much about the price, Uncle Yu and the Head village help me a lot, only then I agree to sell the fish to Boss Sun." Bai Yi Yang explain.

She knows that Bai Yi Chen is not unreasonable, he is probably just in shock when they suddenly receive a large sum of money.

"Since when are you so good in fishing? You never even come to the river before. The river is deep, what if an accident happen?" Bai Yi Chen said again.

"I heard the story about Old man Wang catching a rare fish there, so I want to try my luck. I really don't know how to fish at first, little Shitou taught me a lot, then he said that my fishing luck is good, that is how I manage to caught the fish. The boys also help me a lot when catching the big fish." She narrate the whole thing.

That is quite true, even with the instant knowledge from the system, she still did learn a bit from Little Shitou. It is not entirely lying.

"And..about the other point…I am half wrong I admit. But I wasn't entirely clueless, when we were fishing I never allow Xiao Ling and Fang Fang near the edge, as for me..I learned a bit from school, what more all the boys are so good at swimming the basically can live on water." Bai Yi Yang said.

Bai Yi Chen sigh.

She actually have good points.

"About the money, I will transfer it to your account later. Do you want me to buy you a smartphone?" Bai Yi Chen said.

Right, this is what she have been waiting for.

She nod vigorously in agreement.

"Do you have any preference?" He ask again, tomorrow he will take some time to buy hers.

Bai Yi Yang think hard, she want a good smartphone but what if this brother call her wasteful?

But she also don't want a cheap one like what Bai Yi Chen is using.

She bet it is a model from a few years back.

"Then can I have the latest model, if not the latest then at least this year?" Bai Yi Yang look at Bai Yi Chen with hopeful eyes.

She knows that they are in a tight financial situation but she really want a pretty one, she will use it a lot, a lot of things need smartphone.

Bai Yi Chen agree immediately, since it is the money that Bai Yi Yang earned herself, then she can spend it however she wants.

"Then buy Xiao Ling one too. Using smartphone to pay the bus fee and making transactions is easier than bringing cash with her. She is a big girl, many girl her age has smartphone too." Bai Yi Yang add.

Bai Yi Chen though for a while then nod.

"Are you going to go work part time again tomorrow?" Bai Yi Yang asked.

Now she is warming up with the Bai siblings.

Bai Yi Chen is not that scary, if it were for his younger siblings then he will easily agree with anything.

"En. You and the other stay at home. You won't go fishing secretly again tomorrow right?"

Bai Yi Chen frown.

"No." Bai Yi Yang laugh.

"Tomorrow I want to fix our vegetables garden then look around the house" Bai Yi Yang tell him her plans.

She never plan to hide her activity from him at the first place.

"The vegetables garden is a bit messy, if it is too hard wait for me to return in the evening, I will make time to fix it." Bai Yi Chen said.

He look outside their vegetables patch and thought that he really need to fix it.

They got their vegetables from there, it was something that he and his sibling planted when they first move here.

It was barely maintained, so it look quite pitiful.

"Alright."

Bai Yi Yang didn't oppose his idea.

She have unlocked the Farming skills in the afternoon, so those small vegetable patch is no problem for her.

After fishing today, she have 15 points left.

Later this night or tomorrow morning she will allocate 9 points to Strength to upgrade to Level 2 so that she have strength to farm.

The two of them sat for a few moments in silence until Bai Yi Chen fake a cough.

"I will help you prepare the fish. How do you want me to cut it?"

Bai Yi Chen stood up and head to the old sink.

"Just clean 5 fish, I will cut it myself. Later can you set up fire outside to grill the fish, Fang Fang have been talking about it all day."

Bai Yi Yang said and took a small basket to pick some vegetables from the garden.

She planned to cook 4 simple fish dish today since the house doesn't have that much ingredients, steamed fish with ginger, pan fried fish, tomato fish soup and grilled fish.

With this she can earn 4 additional points. Oh wait, is cooking rice can be considered as a dish too? She softly laugh.

The vegetables garden is not that bad, all the things she need is there.

When they have more money on the future, she will set up a spotlight onto this vegetables patch so that they can still go pick it at night.

It won't be long before the sun completely go down so she rushed inside only to see that Bai Yi Chen is already crouching in the courtyard with a brazier filled with coal.

The three kids also has finished cleaning up and the two smaller one is crowding around the brazier with Bai Yi Chen. Asking things once in a while which Bai Yi Chen patiently answer.

"I will quickly go prepare the fish to grill." She said and enter the kitchen.

5 fish are already clean in a large metal bowl near the counter and Bai Yi Ling is busy tending to the fire, a fragrant smell of rice fills the kitchen.

"Why are you here? You already took a bath, go sit at the dinner table." Bai Yi Yang said.

"Alright jiejie, I will just cook the rice." Bai Yi Ling grinned.

Bai Yi Yang no longer mind her, she quickly choose two especially fat fish and remove the big bone in the middle, leaving a beautifully cut fish. She seasoned it with salt and pepper, then smear sesame oil and stuffed it with some chives from the garden.

She repeat the same process with the other fish and send it outside for Bai Yi Chen to grilled.

Then she proceed to prepare the fish for the second menu which is fish soup with tomato. She cut the fish head off, then fillet the fish meat. The bone is cut into pieces to make the soup more flavourful later. The not so beautiful tomato from the vegetables farm was cut into big cube to be added into the soup later.

Then for the pan fried fish, she simple remove the fish bone like the grilled fish and divide it into half, making the fish flat. Then simple seasoning is put on it, if not because the two young one may be afraid of spicy, she would have added some chilli flake. But even if pan fried with salt alone with sesame oil, it will still be delicious.

Then lastly for the steam fish, she just clean the fish properly again, put it on an oval metal plate and spread some ginger on it.

The ginger is also from the field, there is a few pitiful looking ginger planted, she only pulled out one ginger root and cut only a bit, she put the remaining aside.

Later she will pour hot oil and soy sauce on the steamed fish when it is cooked.

Bai Yi Ling was once again shocked.

Since when does her sister know how to prepare fish? She never remember her showing this skill before.

"Jiejie is so good."

She praise as she look over all the chopped fish with slight blank expression.

"En, believe me you will like the taste."

Bai Yi Yang add, ignoring Bai Yi Ling expression.

"En.. Xiao Mo and Fang Fang doesn't really like vegetables but they really like jiejie cooking during lunch."

It is really a wonder.

Bai Yi Yang cooking is just average, sometime Bai Yi Ling can cook better than her. But where did she learn how to prepare fish?

The other may not know that her older sister has no talent in the kitchen, the twin is similar in this matter, but she knows more than anyone.

"I also just learn a bit. Uncle Yu said that fish can be prepared this way." Bai Yi Yang smiled.

"Is the rice done?"

She changed the topic.

"Done. Jiejie can use the pot now." Bai Yi Ling said.

Bai Yi Yang first fry the fish bone until brownish then add some water in it before adding the fish head and fish fillet, then seasoning.

The soup look whitish and there are thin layer of oil on top of it.

Then she transferred it into the clay pot before asking Bai Yi Ling to put it to simmer on the brazier when the other finished grilling fish outside.

Then she moved with the pan fried fish. When the fish met the hot sesame oil, it produce a sizzling sound and fragrant aroma immediately spread. It even attracts the two little bean to come into the kitchen.

When Bai Yi Yang flipped the fish, the golden brown and crispy side is revealed, making the two kids exclaimed, they are almost drooling over the food.

Even after Bai Yi Yang finished frying it and transferred it into a plate, they followed her and sat on the dinner table to stare at the pan fried fish under the food cover.

By the time she finished setting up the steamed fish, the two cannot wait any longer and keep asking when they are going to have their meal. There are already two fish dish on the table and both of it is equally delicious, how can the children hold on any longer.

"Be patient, it won't be long until we eat." Bai Yi Yang said.

"Ohh.."

The two children weakly answer. This is really challenging their willpower.

"Why don't you two assistant chef deliver this tomato and spring onion outside. Tell your sister ti add it in the soup now."

Bai Yi Yang call the two over to do some work so that they will get distracted.

"Alright!" The two climb down from the chair and took the plates from Bai Yi Yang.

Bai Yi Mo hand over the plate with spring onion to Fang Fang and hold the bowl of sliced tomato.

The two quickly disappear outside.

Don't know what they were doing now but they didn't come inside to disturb her again until she called them to come inside.

Her steamed fished exude fragrant aroma and the children eyes brightened.

Bai Yi Chen already bring in the fish soup in the clay pot and without waiting for instructions, she already scoop out the soup into 5 wooden bowls with some tomatoes and fish fillet.

The thinly slice fish fillet look so delicious that he also cannot help but swallowed his saliva.

At the table, Bai Yi Ling already scooped just enough portion of rice for them. The little one wanted one extra scoop this time but Bai Yi Ling quickly scare them that if they end up wasting food they will have to sleep outside.

"Hehe."

Bai Yi Yang was amused with the little one horrified expression.

"Blow on it before drinking, its hot."

Bai Yi Chen put down the fish soup in front of them one by one.

Finally when all are set up they started eating their dinner, just the right time to eat dinner.

Bai Yi Yang was thankful, no matter how poor this family are, at least they have electric light, even though it is a bit dim.

Since Bai Yi Fang is still too short to reach every food on the table, Bai Yi Yang who is sitting next to her will put fish meat in her bowl.

"I like the fried fish the most. Jiejie, can you cook more fried fish tomorrow?"

Bai Yi Fang said after swallowing her food.

"Of course, as long as Fang Fang is not tired of eating this, jiejie will cook it for you everyday." Bai Yi Yang said.

She bet when she cook other things tomorrow, she will changed her mind and ask the same question for those dishes too.

"Everything jiejie cook is delicious. I wonder how Shitou cook their fish?"

Bai Yi Mo chimed in. He feels that other family cooking cannot beat the food they cooked today.

"Why do you mind how other family cook their food? Don't let me catch you showing off tomorrow?" Bai Yi Ling said with slight warning.

Fang Fang laugh and point at her brother who is getting scolded.

"I am just curious.."

Bai Yi Mo answer in low voice as she gobbled on his food.

Their dinner passed by peacefully. Everyone ate to their heart content.

The one who shocked Bai Yi Yang was Bai Yi Chen, he looks very skinny but he ate a lot. He ate two and a half bowl of rice, two bowls of fish soup and she finished all the fish that the other siblings cannot finished.

Now only half of the fish soup is left in the claypot, they can still eat it tomorrow for breakfast or lunch.

Just like that, the first day in the new world passed by.

Before sleeping, Bai Yi yang add 9 points to strength, making her at Level 2, her sore body immediately disappear.

Only then she peacefully fall asleep.
