Actually, it was shown in the Ben 10 Reboot that when Omnitrix absorbs too much mana (Magical Energy), it stops working or rather imbalances the energy storage.
In the show when Omnitrix was overloaded with mana by Gwen, Azmut has to come personally from Galvan to fix it.
