"Uhh...what did-did I hear you right?" I tried looking for the right question. Did he just ask me to do what I think he did? Or is my hearing off?
"The tray Lyra. Not the clothes." He deadpanned.
"I...I knew that." I defended with arms crossed over my chest. But to be honest anyone would know he was talking about the tray, not the clothes.
Where's my head at?
"Sure you did."
In response I took the tray shielding my face with my hair so that he wouldn't see the look of mortification I was spotting.
I took the tray to the kitchen and glanced at my phone that I'd somehow forgotten on the counter. I picked it up only to find missed calls from Kate. I had been so busy taking care of Owen that the wedding totally slipped my mind.
I picked up the phone to call her but then it started ringing in my hands. I swiped the screen and placed it next to my ear.
"Where have you been?!" She screamed, causing me to move the phone away from my ear before anything got damaged. After I was sure she wasn't going to do any more screaming. I placed the phone back to my ear.
"Do you have any idea how worried I was?" She spoke, albeit calmly this time.
"I'm so sorry."
"You better be. Any who I just wanted to tell you that I won't be going to the wedding." I heard her voice get an octave higher.
"Why not?"
"My boyfriend came over." She shrieked with happiness. "He was around town and he came over to surprise me and I decided to spend the day with."
"What about your Aunt's wedding?"
"She's getting married so she'll understand where I'm coming from. Plus I told mum to apologise on my behalf." She added then I heard a male's voice call from the phone in a distant. "Ok Lyra. I've got to go. Have a good one."
"You too." I replied before the call ended.
I walked back into Owens room to check up on him but I wasn't prepared for what I saw. There on the bed was Owen only in his boxer briefs. I squeaked, covering my eyes with my hands in the process and rushed out the room. Maybe he was doing much better than earlier. I decided to go with the fact that he'd actually listened to me when I told him to try and lose some clothes to quicken the healing process.
I decided to watch some TV. to help pass time and luckily a rom-com was on and I settled on watching it. Hours later, I heard my phone ringing from the kitchen. Sighing I got up from the sofa and made my way to the kitchen. When I picked my phone I noticed that it was Mrs James calling.
"Hello?"
"Lyra?" Her voice came over the phone. "Is Owen with you? I've been calling his phone but it goes directly to voicemail each time."
"He's in his room." I wasn't sure if I was supposed to let her know that he was actually not doing so well.
"Oh good." She sighed. "Can you tell him that I won't be able to make it home?"
What happened? I wanted to ask but she went on to explain.
"One of the girls had an accident so I'll be staying over with her. I hope you don't have any problems with Owen." She said worry clear in her voice.
"No. I'll let Owen know as soon as he wakes up."
"Okay honey. Don't hesitate to call if you want something."
"I won't." Soon the call disconnected and I went back to the living to continue watching the movie.
I heard the fridge open and close before I looked in the kitchen's direction and I saw Owen. At least he'd tried to cover up a little. Keyword being tried because he was only dressed in sweets that were positioned dangerously low on his waist.
"Wanna take a pic?" He said, now flexing his biceps to which I rolled my eyes.
The guy was definitely full of himself.
I turned my attention back to the movie although it wasn't making any sense, maybe I'd just lost interest in it. I just watched on as the woman knelt in front of the guy with a wedding ring propped in a small velvet box.
"Is Gran still gone?" Owen called standing next to where I was seated before plopping himself next to.
"Yeah. She actually said she wouldn't be able to make it back 'cause she'd be taking care of one of her friends who'd been in an accident."
"Do you know what that means?" He smirked at me.
"What?"
"We have the house to ourselves."
