I hate it when I read mc's who actually give up their weapon in that situation. Its literally the stupidest move to make, you've given any leverage you had away the moment to chose to surrender. What's to stop him from killing the girl and then the mc now that the mc has lost most of his power and threat? (I get he probably has a hidden weapon that the smithy made but still think its very risky) While it might seem dangerous and scary, he should have kept the sword and shown absolute strength and confidence, thereby making the enemy wary of making any real moves to harm the hostage. After all, if they tried to hurt or kill the hostage what is stopping you from going crazy and attacking?
