Chapter 042

"Whew, finally done!" thought Alex in relief.

He had spent the rest of the morning after his meeting with Professor Oak creating all kinds of accounts in various services. He now had a trainer ID. The trainer ID was not proof of being a trainer but a qualification to becoming one. Anyone over the age of 10 and an official citizen of the alliance could apply for a trainer ID, regardless of whether they possessed any Pokemon. But if you had a Pokemon without registering for a trainer ID, that would be illegal. Since he planned on becoming a trainer, it was imperative he had a trainee ID before he even thought of owning a Pokemon.

Alex also created an account in the calling app. He now had his own phone number he could give to others to call him, though he had to pay the Calling Corporation Incorporated 100 Poke a year to keep the number from being disconnected, and had to recharge one of the packs that gave you a certain number of calling minutes. He also created a personal email address. But sadly found out that the internet to cost a lot of money. He picked a cheap and basic calling and internet plan for himself. He figured that he could use the Oak Corall's computers and phones to make calls and browse the internet.

After having lunch, Alex reported again to Professor Oak. He installed an app called "Oak Corall" on Alex's Pokedex and gave him the lowest permission in it. But even with the lowest permission on this app, Alex could make unlimited calls and have free access to the internet on his Pokedex. Alex lamented the list of over 300 Poke due to his urgency.

"Now, let's talk about something else. Which Pokemon would you like as your starter? asked Professor Oak.

"I can have a Pokemon as a starter?" asked Alex.

"Of course. You did tell me you would eventually go on a journey. It makes no sense for you not to have a Pokemon. There is a reason why 10 is the age you are allowed to have Pokemon. That is because this age is when you truly bond with Pokemon. You can still train and have a bond with Pokemon while staying in one place. And for any fieldwork I send you on, I wouldn't be assured if you didn't have Pokemon of your own" said Professor Oak. "So what Pokemon do you want?"

"Do I have to choose within the three Imperial Starters of Kanto?" asked Alex.

"Not necessarily, but I would highly recommend it. The Imperial Starters are the best for new trainers. This is because they form bonds easily and are trusting of new trainers. You could have a Magneton as your starter, but it may not listen to you at all. The Imperial Starters do not pose such problems. After being slightly trained, they will listen to their trainer most of the time. There are exceptions of course, like Charmander upon evolution have a record of ignoring their trainers that they see unfit, but it is not common" said Professor Oak.

Alex considered asking for a pseudo-legendary Pokemon, but they had slow growth rates and were unsuitable as starters. Plus he didn't want to come off as greedy. He thought of what Pokemon to ask, and finally decided on choosing what he would choose in Pallet Town in his previous life.

"Professor, I have decided. I would like a Charmander" said Alex.

"Very well. Unfortunately, all the Charmander I prepared for newcomers, which is 4 were given away. Charmander have been unpopular in the last few years due to stories of disobedient Charmeleon, so I only prepared 4 thinking it would be enough. But you are in luck. There is a very special Charmander which I was given recently, which I planned to raise in the ranch, but I think it would be better for it to become your starter" said Professor Oak.

He then took out a small bell from his pocket and shook it. The bell made no noise and it did not seem like anything happened.

"Uh, Professor? What was that?" asked Alex?

"This bell? It's one of the products of some research we conducted years ago. The material it is made of insulates Psychic powers. This material, called Psychocrome, is used in Psychic proof helmets and things like that. We were attempting to use Pyschochrome to create a bell that would disrupt Psychic powers in the vicinity when shook. Unfortunately, the intensity was not enough to disrupt teleportation. But later, I found that it could still cause a significant enough disruption that it could get the attention of nearby Psychic type Pokemon. Hence, I started using it as a summoning tool of sorts.

"Summoning?" asked Alex, getting a bad premonition.

"Ah there you are Alakazam" he heard Professor Oak say, as he started spinning like a top mid air.
