He should have realized she was going through something like that when she kept pulling away from him. It all made sense. But was there anything he could do about it now that he knew the truth? 

She was like a shooting star lighting up his boring and repetitive life. Could he really afford to let her go even if she was in love with someone else? 

Had something bad happened with that other Roman? Was he in love with someone else? Had he died like her father? What exactly was it that was so special about him that she couldn't bear to be around someone similar?
