Chris and Mike had been willing to give the other team a handicap because of the "disadvantage" of Penelope being the only girl. She frostily told them that she didn't need it and proved her point by beating them two games in a row without one. 

"I am so sorry for ever offering you a handicap," Chris said in awe. "You're amazing."

Penelope couldn't help but preen a little. "Well, I did go to college on a volleyball scholarship."

Mike laughed and clapped his teammate on the shoulder. "That explains it. Dude, we got schooled by a pro."

"I don't know about being a pro…" she hedged. 

She hadn't even finished the four years that were stipulated in her contract. Even if she had, getting scouted for professional volleyball was highly unlikely since there were only a handful of teams in the entire country.
