CHAPTER 41
After getting off the train, Catherine ran into the minister who’d performed her marriage. Driving along in his car, Pastor Kelley had almost passed her before he recognized who she was as she hurried down the side of the rural road. She sighed in great relief when he agreed to take her the rest of the way home. She was so close now.
She burst into the cottage. Finding no one in the living area, she rushed to her bedroom to find Bowen’s body, still as a statue. Before she could process what she was seeing, she heard movement behind her, and she whirled around. To her utter shock, a shapeshifter with jet black hair and clothing stood in the doorway.
Catherine instantly filled her palms with fire.
“Caty, stop, it’s me!”
She froze. That voice. Her eyes widened and she quickly drew back her power, straightening up. “Mary?” She blinked a few times. It couldn’t be.
