Chapter 18: Steal!

"What?! What do you mean ?!" Baron Kar asked in a loud tone causing the maid's body to flinch

The fearful maid can only explain the situation to the evil Baron. The more the situation was explained to Kar, the more his face darkened

Such a huge plague was actually spreading in his territory without his knowledge?!

"Why does no one inform me that the plague is this bad?!" Baron Kar raged. If he knew things would turn like this, he would have taken immediate action

"M-My lord... y-you said that no one should disturb you even if the skies fall down" the maid anxiously answered

Those were the words that Kar said to the servant days ago. But he didn't expect that the situation would really turn like this

"Useless!" Kar raged and even uses his magic on the poor maid. A strong gust of wind was released by his palm and the pitiful maid was thrown away while a jet of blood escapes her mouth

"How could a plague this serious suddenly appear?" Kar originally planned on pushing Ram further after he finished making the required amount of potion he would give to the sect. Who would have thought that it would be him that will be pushed into such a grim situation?

However, the thought of Ram being behind this plague never entered Kar's mind. As far as he knows, Ram doesn't have the capability to do this

Not to mention, Ram deeply loves his siblings. A person that valued emotions can't easily push thousands of people into danger

However, what Baron Kar didn't expect was that it was precisely because Ram loves his siblings that's why he agreed to Reif's plans

If the situation further escalated then Baron Kar would surely be able to force Ram to obey him

When that time comes, Ram's siblings would also be harmed. Seeing his citizens suffering from a plague that was an attack against him causes Ram to harden his heart

Today, it was his citizens. Who knows maybe in the next day it would be his siblings that will be harmed. Ram doesn't want to endanger them

As a result, he can only become the devil to fight another devil. He pointed the knife of death at Kar's people and that causes the latter's position to be threatened

"This won't do. If this matter gets too out of control, other Nobles would surely criticize me" Kar thought worriedly

His territory might be small but it is still the Empire's Territory. If a stronger Noble Family decided to make a move, they can seize his territory

Although the town itself won't give the Nobles substantial income but they can still do a lot of things to it

They can turn it into a place that will suit their needs. After driving out the citizens, they can build mansions, factories, workshops, and any other things

The Nobles at the top of the hierarchy stay in the Royal Capital but their lands are spread out into the whole Empire. Even if this land is not prosperous, the Nobles can still make good use of it for their own profit

Thus, Kar himself decided to visit his town to check the situation personally

The Baron's movement wasn't the least bit concealed and soon, Reif learned of it

Finally, the time he was waiting for for the past few days arrives. Reif stays in the town despite the spreads of the plague to wait for the time that Baron Kar will go out of his Manor

With the realization that he is currently poor and weak, Reif entered the battle of power struggles between Nobles

With the plague, there were a lesser number of people guarding the Baron's Manor and Reif would find it easier to sneak in

As soon as Kar was gone, Reif immediately entered the Manor to steal anything that is worth the money

From what Reif learned in the servants for the past days, the Baron has 2 special rooms. The first one is the master's chamber

That is Kar's personal room. Some of his wealth must be stored there. There might also be some dirt in his name that can be found there

However, that is not the place that Reif chooses to enter first. He instead went to the second special room

It was the room that Kar stayed in whenever he was making potions. As a member of the Dark Heart Sect that specializes in poison, there should be a lot of poison there that would benefit Reif

Even though Reif doesn't know the thing about the 'donation' he still knew that Baron Kar stayed in that room for a few days

Kar even said that even if the skies fall down tomorrow, no one should disturb him. From that, Reif can guess that he did something inside the potion room

When Reif arrives at the door of the room, he found out that it was locked. There was even magic cast on it that will alarm everyone if someone tried entering it without permission

Too bad for Baron Kar that this level of protection is simply a child's play in front of Reif

With Reif's knowledge and skills, it was easy for him to bypass this defense. The magic was useless in front of him and he immediately dispelled it

After that, Reif placed his palm in front of the padlock and a magic circle instantly appeared in front of his hand

"[Remodel!]"

Remodel is a magic that doesn't really have much attacking power. Its only use is to change the physical appearance of things

It sounds simple but this practical magic is not something that everyone can use. It needs precise magical control

After all, this magic is literally used to alter things. Not to mention, Reif was even bending metals but he still did it with so much ease

The metal part that entered the hole in the padlock retracted and just like that, Reif managed to unlock it

Reif doesn't know how long Kar will stay in the town and he immediately entered the potion room

The inside still has a strong pungent smell. The scent of herbs, beasts parts, and all sorts of ingredients wafted and mixed in the air creating a not so good smell

The number of glass jars containing all sorts of things was numerous. There was also a shelf that was filled with potions. The majority of them are brewed poisons though

These poisons are one of Reif's targets. He picked the potion one by one and directly drank their contents

There were too many things in this potion room. Reif can't possibly put them inside his spatial ring with limited space

One poison after another was drunk by Reif but he didn't even suffer from any pain. These kinds of poison are superior to the ones that Reif got from before except for the poison given to him by the Sect Leader

Even then, this was still quite a feast for Reif. As a person that heavily relied on using poison, Baron Kar has both variety and quantity

It didn't take that long before Reif finishes drinking all of the poison. Aside from the poison, the only thing that he took was the other potions. There were healing, antidotes, buff, and other kinds of potion although they are only the minority

These potions would fetch quite a bit of coin. Instead of taking the ingredients that will take too much space, it was more practical to steal the final product itself

With his business finish in the potion room, Reif exited it. Aside from taking the things in value, Reif put back both the lock and magic on the room's door

In this way, no one would immediately know that there was a robber that came here

Reif looks at his surroundings and when he made sure that no one has seen him, he went to his second location

The Baron's Chamber must have store pieces of evidence of his wrongdoings and also wealth. Reif would prefer material wealth but evidence would also be accepted

Who knows, there might be something in there that will implicate the Dark Heart Sect

To gain the power to eliminate the Sect would need more time and effort on Reif's side. It wouldn't be bad if he can at least give the Sect some headache when he is still too weak

The Baron's Room has an even stronger magic cast on it. But in Reif's eyes, the magic is still full of countless flaws that he can easily exploit

It also didn't take that much effort on his part to break the room's defense and he immediately entered it

As soon as Reif was inside, he quickly went to work. He finds gems worth some money and he stored them in his spatial ring

Baron Kar is really much richer than Baron Ram. The difference between the corrupt and just in terms of wealth became visible

Ram surely only has a few hundred gold coins in him. But not all the gold coins are for his personal usage

Maintaining the manor and Town itself would require money. As for Baron Kar, Reif judged that he might have at least 400 gold coins just in his room alone

The amount might even reach a thousand gold coins if the coins with Kar himself is counted
