"What happened here," Niall screamed while he threw his bike at the side of the road.

Niall saw a boy looking pretty stressed sitting next to a girl who wasn't looking great at all.

"Hey boy. I'm a medic let me help you."

5 hours earlier

"Jesse you fancy mountain biking today," Emily said through the phone while pouring milk into her cereal.

"Yeah fine how late at your place?" Emily looked at the clock which gave in that it was already late morning.

"Well how about in 10 minutes," Emily said laughing at her best friend.

"Fine with me, but count me in for 15 minutes since I need to bring Ivy to ballet first," Jesse said while he screamed at his sister to get ready for her ballet lesson or she had to walk to there herself.

Emily laughed at it since she knew Jesse wasn't meaning it at all since he took full parenting over his 4 sisters and 3 brothers.

"Hey I'll see you soon but please be kind to Ivy," Emily said laughing.

"Ehh Em," Jesse said while he put on Ivy her shoes, "could you maybe watch Alec and Boaz when I'm bringing away Ivy because Charlotte won't be around for another good 10 minutes and you know these boys can't be alone."

"Yeah yeah," Emily said with a mouth full of cereal, "give me 2 minutes."

Emily got her cup of cereal and went next door where she rang the doorbell.

Alec opened the door and saw his neighbour standing on his doorstep.

"Em!" he screamed while he hugged her making Emily her cereal almost falling all over him.

"Yeah good seeing you too Alec," Emily said while Alec clammed around her leg.

"Ehh Em you're here," Jesse said when he saw his best friend / neighbour stumbling into his house with his little brother clammed to her leg. The sight of it made him laugh.

"Well guess who hadn't had her breakfast yet," Jesse said while Emily just shoved another spoon of cereal into her mouth. Emily couldn't help but smile. Too bad Jesse is gay because she would've fallen in love with him if he wasn't.

"Charlotte will be back from football with Josh and Avelin within 10 minutes so if you could just wait for her and watch Alec and Boaz that would be great. Because I'm not into calling firefighters when these two have set the house in fire within these ten minutes." Jesse said laughing.

Boaz and Alec are two amazing young boys but can turn satanic when nobody watches them.

"Yeah Yeah now hurry before Ivy doesn't make it to her ballet practice."

Jesse gave Alec and Boaz a quick goodbye kiss and left with Ivy on the back of his bike.

Ten seconds after Jesse left, Alec and Boaz felt that this was the right moment. Both of them ran upstairs when Emily wasn't looking not much later to come down with two super soakers.

Alec and Boaz where surprised when they returned that Emily was no where to be found downstairs anymore.

"Huh," Boaz said looking confused at his twin, " you said Emily was down here."

"I right am boys," Emily said standing behind them, "but I know you two too well so I already thought you were up to something." While she said that she grabbed both of the super soakers and placed them on top of the closet where the boys weren't able to grab it again.

Both of them were laughing that they actually got caught and decided to lay this unsuccessful prank behind them and watch television instead.

After a good 8 minutes a key was to be heard in the front door which made both of the boys and Emily look up. In the door entrance was Avelin completely covered in sweat.

"So Avelin," Emily started when she saw the 10 year old standing in the doorway, "you had a touch game hadn't you my love." Avelin nodded at the comment made by Emily.

Shortly after Avelin, both Charlotte and Josh came walking in.

"Hey girl," Charlotte said to Emily when she spotted her.

Emily put up her hand to say hey to Charlotte since Avelin was in a pretty interesting, well at least in Avelin's opinion, conversation about her scoring six goals.

"How did Josh do?" Emily asked when the five year old released himself from his older sister.

"Let's say he scored pretty easily. His team won by 20-9 but you know he was the one who scored 9 in the other goal and 5 into his own," Charlotte explained while still laughing at her younger brother you had no idea which goal he had to score.

"How about you?" Emily asked. Charlotte is one of the best defenders their football club has momentarily. Jesse and Emily are both on the U19 of their local club and are both midfielders.

"Yeah went alright," Charlotte said, "but I think my opponent wasn't too happy with my since I called her a barbie. But to be fair, who plays football with twenty layers of makeup?"

Both Emily and Charlotte had to laugh at that comment that they didn't notice Jesse returning into their home.

"So girls," Jesse said in order to get their attention, "what's so funny here." He walked past his sister and best friend to get to Josh.

"And how was your first game my little champ," Jesse began to Josh who he picked up.

"Yeah about that," Charlotte started making Jesse turn to her side, "let's just say he has the same scoring ability as you in your first game."

Jesse and Emily both started at the same time at football and had their first game together as well. Jesse scored 9 times in his own goal, let's just say that was the last time he was put as striker.

"Good job mate," Jesse laughed and high fives his little brother.

Emily was just eating her cereal when Jesse came by and grabbed her cereal bowl out of her hand and began eating his own. Emily looked at him but had to laugh at the sight and decided to leave it because she began to feel pretty full as well.

"So," Jesse said while putting the bowl on the counter, "mountain biking it is."

"Yeah let me get my bike first," Emily said laughing while scooping Alec and Boaz up from her legs.

Emily left the room and that's when Charlotte turned towards Jesse.

"Jess," she started hesitated, "please just don't tell her alright." Both Jesse and Charlotte looked sad when Charlotte brought it back up.

The thing Emily nor the other kids of the Caeyers family was supposed to know is that their parents died on vacation.

Jesse got the phone a few nights ago but didn't want to tell his brother or sisters excluding Charlotte.

None of them had a good relationship with their parents, Josh has even never seen them. So what they don't know won't hurt them.

Outside a ring was to be heard.

"Be careful," Charlotte said to her brother while giving a kiss on his cheek which gave some squeals from the young ones which made Jesse turn towards to them sticking his tongue out.

"So," Jesse started while he closed his front door behind him, "which trail are we riding today?"

"You sure this is a good idea?," Emily questioned Jesse when he pointed to a trial on the board.

Most of the time they take the same trail over and over again.

"Yeah sure a change can't hurt," Jesse said while his eyes looked a bit fearful as well.

"Alright then," Emily gave in while she was already cycling towards the road that would lead them to the trail.

The road towards the trail itself was already 6 kilometres through rough forest paths.

"OMG Em," Jesse said laughing, "I totally forgot to tell you this but Charlotte is into a new boyband and our room is fully covered with posters of these boys."

Emily has to laugh of it as well because Charlotte can get pretty obsessive when it comes to music.

"How are they called," Emily asked Jesse. "Yeah 1d I thought, well at least that's what stayed under every poster that hangs on her wall."

Emily nodded not knowing herself.

"And something spectacular had happened into your life?" Emily randomly asked. Jesse's eyes were fixed not moving a bit and neither did he.

"Holy shit Jes what is it," Emily became quite concerned when her best friend suddenly stopped and looked like he was in some trance.

"Yeah fine," Jesse states while wiping his tears from his eyes. Emily decided to leave it because she knew Jesse wasn't in a mood of talking about it.

"Should we just leave," Jesse said a bit irritated when Emily stood in front of him with her bike. Emily noticed and made way for Jesse.

Jesse drove away with an amazing speed in the wrong direction.

"Jesse wait!" Emily yelled, "the trail is that way," she said laughing. Jesse turned around and laughed at her.

They were on their way to the trail when they were stopped by a young bloke with blond hair.

"I'm sorry but can I ask you something?," he started which made Emily and Jesse stop, "do you maybe the quickest way to the main road?"

Emily looked around her and had no idea herself were they actually.

"I'm sorry," she said, "but we don't know where we are ourselves either."

"Okay but thanks and have a nice day," the guy said. Emily and Jesse waved at him when he turned the other way.

"Well he had some accent," Emily said when the Irish guy went out of their sight.

"He looked quite if I've seen him before somewhere but I don't know where," Jesse states when his eyes still followed the direction this guy went.

"You probably from one of your magazines," Emily said laughing while she gave her best friend a tick to his head.

"Yeah. Yeah. You're the funniest at home aren't you Em?" At this comment both of them had quite a laugh and went towards their track.

"Alright Em," Jesse screamed from 100 meters deeper into the forest because he did complete the trail already, "be careful for some boulders that are on the track but you should be just fine."

Emily felt pretty stressed because last time she did go mountain biking with Jesse she had a nasty fall.

"Yeah I'm coming," Emily yelled back at Jesse.

She started picking up her pace and saw Jesse already standing through the trees, but because she wasn't focussing on the track anymore she drove against a boulder which threw her into the air and due to the amazing force of gravity got thrown back to the ground 20 meters further.

Jesse heard a biking falling and immediately shot up towards the sound.

"EMILY," he screamed while he began to run towards the scene.

Jesse turned around the corner and saw Emily just laying there.

"OMG Em," Jesse sat next to her and began crying.

"I'll get us help," Jesse whispered to Emily. Jesse frantically searched through his pockets to find his phone on coming to realisation he left that one in the hands of Boaz who was playing on it.

"Fuck, fuck, fuck." Jesse began to look at Emily her pockets but didn't found a phone in there either.

Jesse felt hopeless and didn't thought that someone was about to cross their path because it was turning pretty late and this trail was the one which was the deepest into the forest.

If Jesse would ride back it would take 30 minutes and he didn't want to let Emily alone so he quite hoped that some miracle would happen and somebody would indeed pass their track.

Jesse constantly kept checking her pulse in order to make sure she wasn't dying on him.

He sat there for about 20 minutes when he heard a bike being thrown to the ground. "What happened here," somebody screamed. Jesse turned around to see the same blond haired bloke who'd asked them the way earlier that day.

"I'm a medic let me help you," he said while he crouched down to Jesse and Emily.

"What happened?" The boy asked. "Well she just drove down hill and she didn't see that boulder and that's when she fall down." The guy nodded his head understanding the whole situation.

"I'm Niall by the way," Niall said. "Jesse and her name is Emily," Jesse said not keeping his eyes of Emily.

"Did you already call the ambulance," Niall asked. Jesse got tears welling up and shook his head. "I left my phone with my brother and hers is probably laying on her kitchen counter." Niall nodded and focused back on Emily.

"Hey love could you just open your eyes for me," Niall said while giving Emily some pain stimulation but she didn't react to any of that.

"How long has she been laying here?" Jesse looked up when Niall asked him that question. "Let's just say we were here for about 20 minutes till you came," Jesse said. Niall nodded when Jesse stated it and wasn't focused for a moment on Emily anymore. Emily on the other hand was getting worse by the second. When Niall was in conversation with Jesse about her she got a grandmal seizure. Jesse made a high squeal when he saw Emily shaking.

"Jesse," Niall said quick, "please go turn around the corner because mentally can't handle this." Jesse nodded and sprinted away because he couldn't bare this sight.

"Hey little one, easy. Easy," Niall said to Emily while he kept her neck steady because this seizure wasn't caused by epilepsy but by a severe brain trauma.

Niall pulled out his phone to call Liam and to time the seizure.

"Hey Niall where on earth are you? Your Nando's gets cold," Liam told while picking up the phone.

"Don't care about Nando's, it's an emergency. Call in the ambulance to the location I send you and call the trauma helicopter as well."

"Yeah alright," Liam said while sending the information to the dispatcher, "What is it mate?"

"16 year old girl, severe head trauma with possible spinal injury, unconscious at arrival 10 minutes ago had been out for 20 minutes before that, has grandmal seizure due to head trauma, right shin completely fractured, possible broken ribs and a collapsed lung."

"Niall," Liam scrabbles his voice together to overpower the noise of the sirens, "You two hundred percent sure she had fallen over a boulder?" To Liam it sounded quite odd because she would've had such a hard fall in order to get these injuries with such severe extensions.

"Yep two hundred, she stopped seizing tough." Niall called Jesse back to help him with Emily.

"Alright Niall. I put Harry on the helicopter with Louis so they'll be landing anytime soon and count me and Thomas in for three minutes."

Liam hung up after having said that.

"Alright Jesse," Niall said while going to the other side of Emily, "my colleagues will be coming down so she gets the best treatment we can provide at the moment. Do you want me to bring you home or are you just coming down with us?"

Jesse thought about the offer that was laid for him to go with Emily but decided it would be best for all of them that he was brought home by Niall so he could go with Charlotte and probably Alec or Boaz since they feel pretty connected to Emily.

Yet again Emily began seizing and that's when Jesse just started running again. Behind the corner he got Emilys bracelet out his pocket and prayed to the gods she would be alright.

Sirens and the sound of a chopper were to be heard a few moments apart from each other.

"Li I'm here," Niall yelled to someone who showed up with more medical equipment than Jesse thought ever would exist.

"Alright," Liam said while crunching down to Emily, "you prepping an IV?" he questioned Niall.

Niall nodded and got the needles they needed for the IV.

"Hey love try and open your eyes for me," Liam tried to wake her up with pain stimulation but had no luck either.

"It doesn't matter love, I know you're trying," Liam said while scuffles through her hair.

Liam got his stethoscope and indeed found that Emily had a collapsed lung so a few broken ribs weren't ruled out either.

Since Liam was in the forest with barely any light or what so ever he couldn't fix it right here which meant that bagging Emily was the only option to keep her alive.

"Niall," Liam said while he carefully tilted back Emily her neck to make her airway clear, "grab the stuff to intubate because we'll be needing to bag her." Niall quickly scanned through the emergency bag and found the stuff Liam requested.

Niall was going to trust Liam fully on this since he's the head of trauma and IC unit meanwhile Niall is just the trauma paramedic himself.

"I think we should be calling back the helicopter because we can't transfer her through the air since she's way to instable for that," Liam told Niall while he got up.

"Jesse," Niall turned towards the boy who was still around the corner, "can you maybe go to the ambulance and give him this letter and carry some things with me."

Liam, who didn't know there was somebody else around, looked the same direction as his colleague and saw a boy which wasn't much older than Emily and looked pretty devastated.

The boy, Jesse, nodded at Niall and walked after him.

Liam turned back to Emily, who he was bagging, and check for a pulse but got shocked when he didn't find one in her pulse and neither one in her neck nor groin.

"Fuck," Liam cursed under his breath. He needed some one who kept her neck steady and bag her. Liam began to lay Emily on the best position momentarily to be resuscitated.

"Niall," Liam screamed to his colleague who probably was already on his way back from the ambulance, "take the defib with you and let Jesse stay there. Take Thomas with you as well."

Within seconds Thomas and Niall stood in front of Liam with gurney, spinal board, neck brace and the defib. Niall took over the bag from Liam so Liam could give Emily the neck brace. When the neck brace got on Liam began resuscitations while Thomas was prepping the pads which where needed to connect the defib with her body.

Liam kept on giving comprehensions to her heart until he heard the familiar sound of the defib.

"All clear," Thomas screamed. Both Liam and Niall took their hands of in an instant and saw how Emily got shocked. When they shock was over Niall felt for a pulse in her neck while Liam felt for it in her thigh.

"Nope," Niall said and with that Liam began to resuscitate again and Niall began bagging.

Thomas made sure that he was able to shock her system again.

"Charge to 300," he said while turning up the volume of volts going through Emilys body, "everybody clear."

Both Niall and Liam did the same as they did a few seconds before. When the shock was released they both tried to look for a pulse.

When Niall put his finger on her neck he felt a weak pulse. "I feel it," he exclaimed, "there's one but very weak."

"Alright get her on the spinal and hang up an IV again," Liam instructed the other two boys. Thomas stood up and scooped the spinal board right next to her. "On my count," Liam states with his pen in his mouth, "3.2.1." And by one both Niall and Liam carefully shifted Emily on her side.

"Hold on," Niall said when he saw something flickering, "I think she's either seizing again or she's waking up." Liam nodded and counted again while putting her down on the spinal.

"Hey sweetheart can you try to open your eyes," Liam said while trying the pain stimulation again but had no luck with it.

That's when Emilys muscles convulsed again.

"Alright move her ASAP!" Liam commandment both boys. Liam and Niall picked the spinal board up and laid it on the gurney, while Thomas made sure that the IV didn't get twisted.

When they got her laid on the gurney they began running of their lives depended on it.

Jesse was still waiting on the side of the ambulance.

"Hop in the front seat mate," Niall said while he put his arms around Jesses shoulders to comfort him, "I'll bring you home after it does it sound okay to you."

Jesse was quite shocked when he was Liam running with Emily on a gurney who didn't look in the best position possible.

"Will she make it," Jesse asked Niall who got tears in his eyes as well.

This expression provided enough information for Jesse who walked to the other side of the ambulance while Niall, while he wiped his eyes with his arms, hopped in the back with Liam...

"Alright order a CT and some X-rays," Niall yelled to the nurses while he ran with Liam towards the ER ward.

"Niall," Harry is head popped out of the room, "go home mate this isn't something you want to be part on." Niall nodded knowing what Harry meant and left to the waiting room where Jesse sat with his head down. Niall churned down to eye level with Jesse. "Shall we go home mate." Jesse looked up and simply nodded.

"Eh Li," Harry said when the CT and X-rays came back, "I think you want to see this." Harry stepped aside which gave Liam a clear few of the pictures.

"Holy shit," Liam cursed when he looked over the pictures, "it's a miracle that she's alive."

"Haz prep the OR and let Louis scrub in as well because I need all hands on deck for this one."

Niall actually has fallen asleep in the chair and so did Liam. Alec was just laying close to Emily and Jesses head laid on the bed.

All of them, except for Alec, shot up when the monitors got crazy. Liam was first to stand by her side. "Hey you'll be alright. Calm down okay." He was reassuring Emily who was slowly starting to wake up.

"Niall can you get the tube out," he asked his colleague who was standing on the other side. Once Niall removes the tube from her throat Emily started to wake up slowly.

"What happened?" She softly asked. "You had quite a fall. Do you feel hurt at the moment?" Niall asked while keeping his eyes on her vitals. "No but I can't feel my legs anymore." Emily silently cried when she noticed she had no feeling anymore from her waist down.

"Sorry Em," Liam said, "but you'll never be able to walk again." Emily looked sad to Jesse and Alec. "But Em still lives so Em can play with Alec," Alec exclaimed happily. All of the others in the room had to laugh at this innocent little boy.
