37 Found At Oncology - 5sos Medical

Ashton sighed as he walked into the room. He had to do a check up on mister Taylor who got admitted to the hospital due to stage 2 pancreatic cancer. But that was not the reason he sighed, no it was that particular someone who was sitting by his side.

Stella Taylor, mister Taylor his granddaughter, sat in a chair. Her laptop on her lap but she'd fallen asleep. Mister Taylor was admitted to the hospital 5 weeks ago and Ashton had never seen that girl leave her granddad his side.

Her grandfather was the only one she had left after her parents died on a plane crash.

"Goodmorning mister Taylor," Asthon whispered so that Stella wasn't waking up, "I'm going to clean you a bit and than I'll hook up the chemo alright."

Ashton was one of the oncologist nurses and got on mister Taylor his case almost the second he got admitted.

"Oww good morning nurse Irwin," mister Taylor spoke, "how are you today?"

Ashton smiled at the man who always thought about others first. That is what defined him and his granddaughter. "I'm fine mister T," Ashton answered, "I'm here to clean you a bit so that doctor Hood can come down and give you another round of chemo. Does it sound okay to you?"

Mister Taylor chuckled a bit. "You're more experienced than me so I'll give all my faith into your management."

Ashton cracked a smile and placed the bucked with water on the small coffee table. "I'll help you undress," Ashton spoke. He noticed that Stella was still sleeping and the laptop on her lap was running out of battery.

"She slept here al night didn't she?" Ashton asked as he pulled mister Taylor his pjama over his head. Mister Taylor looked towards his granddaughter and sadly nodded. "She's never leaving my side it seems," he answered, "I'm worried about her health. She seemed to have lost quite a significant amount of weight and than in combination with her study."

Ashton nodded and sighed. He started to clean up mister Taylor and washed him a bit.

Suddenly Stella began to wake up a bit.

"Good morning sleeping beauty," Ashton spoke, "how was your sleep?" Ashton smiled and Stella immediately shot up. "What's wrong?" she asked as she noticed her grandpa undressed and Ashton standing next to him.

"It's nothing girl," her grandpa said, "I'm having chemo in a hour and this good lad was giving me a shower so I can look good."

Stella sighed but smiled. "This thing is in need of a charge," she spoke, "and of course everything is gone again."

Stella was getting tired and that was firering back as frustration.

"Stella my love," mister Taylor spoke, "go home my child. Take a shower and a good nap. I'm not going anywhere."

Stella looked towards her grandpa and was in doubt. She really did need a shower and a bed. She hadn't slept good in weeks so she really wanted to go. But what is he died and she wasn't there?

" You 200% sure? " Stella asked to which her grandpa nodded. "Yes my dear child go."

Ashton, who was still 'bathing' mister Taylor, watched the scene unfold and noticed how unsteady Stella stood up.

"Stella wait," Ashton said as she was about to leave, "you alright love?"

Stella sighed having had this conservation too many times with people like Ashton.

"I'm fine," she sighed, "just stressed I think." Ashton nodded and saw what this situation was doing to the 19 year old girl.

"Okay," Ashton gave in, "just go home and rest. I'll make sure nothing happens right?"

"Thank you nurse Irwin," Stella spoke. "It's fine girl," Ashton spoke, "and please call me Ash."

Stella smiled and walked away towards the parking lot where her grandpa's SUV was parked.

---------------------------------------------------------

Stella turned around in her bed and saw that is was 3.30 pm already. Her grandpa should be done with his chemo by now. She slowly got out her bed and hopped into the shower. She wanted to stop by the stores to get a bouquet of flowers for him since his flowers had died over the last 5 weeks.

She turned her speaker to the maximum volume and Mamma Mia was blasted through the speakers. After a quick shower, Stella dressed up and grabbed a few things for her study. As she got everything into her bag she stepped out of the apartment towards the flower shop.

**

"Hello could I help you love?" the woman asks as Stella walks into the shop. Stella looked up and was met with a seller.

"Ehh yes actually," Stella spoke, "I'm looking for flowers that last very long." The woman looked at Stella and smiled. "Of course my love. Anything specific?"

"I don't know what he likes," Stella spoke, "but it has to be hospital resistant." The woman gave Stella a sympathetic smile and nodded. She led Stella towards the flowers and showed her around. Stella eventually picked out the red flowers, from which the name was too hard to pronounce.

Stella paid the flowers and walked outside the store. The bells on the door announcing her exit.

When she got into the parking lot she heard a car speeding. As she looked to her left she didn't see anything coming. It was until she tilted her head towards the right side, she saw a car speeding towards her.

Stella jumped towards the side but the force of the car was uninventable.

She hit her head against her own car, while her waist and legs got hist by the other car who sped away as instant as he hit Stella.

Stella laid conscious on the floor with her head towards the shops and rest of the parking lot.

She heard people running her way but she couldn't see them clearly yet. She didn't feel pain or anything, she just wanted that one thing. She just wanted to get to her grandpa before it was too late.

"Are you alright love?" a woman asked. She crunched into the eyesight of Stella. It was the woman were she just bought the flowers.

"I am," Stella spoke as he voice cracked a bit here and there, "I'm fine." She lifted her head. The woman wasn't keen on it because she might have back or neck injuries she wasn't aware of. Stella was pretty self determined and got up.

The woman helped her up onto her feet and watched as Stella stood against her car.

" You sure?" the lovely lady asked, "I can always call an ambulance for you. You just had an accident my love."

Other people decided to join the scene and it became a bit too overwhelming for Stella. "'N-no," stella stuttered.

The woman noticed what was going on and reassured the others that she had it under control.

"I can drive you to the hospital," the woman decided on giving the last attempt. Stella was thinking about that offer but since she still wasn't able to see clearly she decided that would be her best option because she couldn't drive as the pain in her legs began to kick in an instant.

"Yes please," Stella spoke as she passed the keys of her grandpa's car to the flower lady, "to Saint James please. I need to get there anyways."

The woman nodded and hopped into Stella her vehicle. As Stella hoped in as well she could finally see her own face. She pulled the mirror down and was quite shocked by the sight. Her eye was turning blue already and she had a massive gash in her eyebrow. She had a large bleeding from her chin and her whole face was just covered with stratches. She sighed knowing Ashton was going to find it out and she wasn't looking forward to that conversation.

**

Stella walked in the room where her grandpa laid. She sighed as she saw that she was alone and neither nurse Irwin or doctor Hood was there. She looked towards her grandpa who was still sleeping but still had hooked up to the chemo. This was something Stella question since she was sure that her gran was just getting one round of chemo. She took the chart from the bed and started reading it. She eventually found that her gran was getting two rounds of chemo this time. She sighed knowing that either nurse Irwin or doctor Hood was going to undo the chemo and that they would see her in such a state.

Stella did manage to stop the bleeds from her eyebrow and chin. She found a package of bandages and she placed them on her face.

Stella took her bagpack off her shoulders and laid in on the chair. She got the laptop positioned on the table she usually used to study.

Because that thing was taking a good Damm while to even start up, she walked over to her gran trying not to wake him in the act.

"Look," stella whispered, "I thought you'd like them." She took his hand and rubbed over it with her thumb.

"I can't lose you," she softly cried as she watched her grandpa laying there so vulnerable. Stella watched the flowers she laid in the sink as she entered the room.

She got up and walked, more like hopped because she wasn't able to stand on her right leg, towards the small kind of medical cabinet from her gran. Stella looked at the flowers into her hands which didn't survive the crash either.

As she was trying to get the flowers to look a bit representable. Suddenly Stella picked up a noise that sounded too familiar for the 17 year old Taylor. It was Ashton who was doing his rounds and was about to undo mister Taylor his chemo.

As Ashton entered the room he flicked the light on. Stella hadn't done that since she thought that her grandpa was sleeping. 'fuck, fuck, fuck' Stella thought by herself. If he was seeing her in this state she knew she was screwed. She heard the footsteps of Ashton coming closer and felt his eyes into her back.

"Oww hello Stella," Ashton said. She was still turned with her back towards Ashton. She knew she had to turn around before the boy could grow suspicious. Stella sighed and turned her body towards Ashton.

"Hey," she spoke her head hung low. Stella was now met with an usual hyperactive Ashton who wasn't as hyper anymore. It looked like the world wasn't turning. The birds weren't singing and the only thing that broke the silence in the room was the monitor of mister Taylor.

What looked like an eternity, but literally were a few seconds, Ashton was the one to break the silence.

"OMG Stella," he quickly rushed towards the young women's side, "what happened you okay?"

Ashton looked worried into her eyes. The eyes that were always filled with fear were now filled with a mix of fear and pain, something Ashton disliked the most.

"I-I had an accident," Stella spoke thinking everything through that happened that afternoon. She still hadn't progressed the whole thing of being hit by a car. She looked towards Ashton who was still having a steady grip on her.

"How are you feeling?" Ashton asked his instant kicking in, "like really Stella. How are you?"

Stella looked confused towards Ashton and seemed to zone out of the world. Ashton however was busy looking around to get things straight into his head as well. He didn't see Stella her eyes rolling back into her head. He did notice her fainting once he felt something into his arms that wasn't there a second ago.

Ashton quickly looked up and saw an unconscious Stella laying into his arms. "Hey Stella Hey," Ashton said as he lowered the girl down to the ground, "you'll be fine. We'll take care of you yeah."

He put a string of hair behind her ear and pulled her into a recovery position. Ashton quickly stood up and ran back towards the hallway. He whistled on his fingers to get the attention from the other staff members.

" I need a gruney," he yelled,"and get doctor Hood in here." A few staff members came running with a gruney.

Calum was just busy walking rounds when he heard Ashton yelling to page him into a room. He watched Ashton running into the room of mister Taylor. This made Calum suspicious because he wasn't his most critical patient at the moment and would be surprised if he passed away.

Calum took a run in the room and found nurses crunched down by a body. It couldn't be mister Taylor because the legs were too young and shaved. As Calum turned around the corner he found Stella laid unconscious on the floor with a look that she had been beaten up pretty badly.

"Ashton," Calum said as he took her pusle, "what on earth happened here."

"I found her like this," Ashton responded, "she did tell me something about an accident." Calum nodded and hooked up an monitor to Stella her chest.

"Okay let's get her on the bed and wheel her down to ER," Calum spoke up, "and someone page Hemming and Clifford."

Calum was now trying some pain stimulans out of the girl. He grabbed her finger and very hard on her nail.

"Hey Stella," Calum spoke during the act, "I need you to open those eyes for me please."

Ashton was busy with his pager. He dailed Luke his page number and pressed the 911 button. "I paged doctor Hood," Ashton spoke.

Calum nodded and was still busy getting Stella back to reality. Ashton took a look towards the monitors and found that Stella her BP was actually quite low.

"Doctor Hood," Ashton spoke up, "her BP is quite low." Calum looked towards the monitor and saw it as well.

"Alright Ash," Calum said as he got back up to look around in his bag, "let's get an IV in her system and hang a bag of Lactated Ringers. I'll give 50cc of morphine into her system via another line."

Ashton nodded and wiped her hand clear with an alcohol wipe. As he did that, he placed the needle onto her hand. He got it secured with a plaster and removed the needle from the tube.

" Could you hold this for a moment?" Ashton asked as he gave an intern the bag with Lactated Ringers. The girl nodded and got the bag from Ashton.

"Alright I'm done," Calum spoke as he got himself standing up again, "Lif-"

Calum couldn't finish his sentence because he got interrupted by a familiar voice. As both Ashton and Calum looked up, they saw mister Taylor waking up.

He moved his head and saw that there were a bunch of doctors working on his 17 year old granddaughter.

"What happened?" the man asked. Calum nodded to Ashton that he could speak up to the man laying in his bed.

"Alright mister T," Ashton spoke up while Calum was packing the girl for transport, "it seems like Stella has had an accident. We don't know how it happened or where it happened, but we do know that see needs to be seen by specialists right away."

"How is she?" mister Taylor cried. Ashton shot a look towards Calum who was almost done with loading Stella onto the gruney.

"Mister Taylor," Calum spoke grabbing his hand to reassure the man, "I don't know what's wrong with Stella yet but I'll promise you I'll find the best doctors in the hospital to take care of her."

Mister Taylor smiled and nodded towards Calum. "Can I?" mister Taylor started off hesitated, "can I maybe see her for a moment?"

Calum sighed but nodded waving the inters over to push the gurney next to mister Taylor his bed. Ashton lowered the bar for a bit and sat the man more upright so he could touch the 17 year old.

As Stella came closer, mister Taylor just cried more and more. "Don't leave me," he spoke as he grabbed Stella her hand.

Just as Calum wanted to announce that he was taking Stella away, her monitors gone crazy. Calum shot a look towards the girl laying on the gruney, starting having a fit.

"Move her," Calum spoke quickly, "NOW!" The interns ran with Stella towards the hall and Calum followed them.

Ashton was now dealing with a distressed mister Taylor. "Hey hey," Ashton softly spoke, "she'll be fine."

"Really?" mister Taylor spoke. Ashton nodded. "We'll let the best specialists look out for her. But I'll need to go now yeah?"

Mister Taylor nodded and Ashton ran towards the elivator where Calum just pulled the gurney in.

**

"Alright," Calum said as he pulled the gurney on the brakes as he sat the gurney into the cubible, "17 year old Stella Taylor. Found in this state at the oncology ward. Got hit by a car. 50cc of morphine injected by the IV and hung a bag Lactated Ringers. BP 50 over 30. Had a grandmal seizure at scene and lasts for 4 minutes tops now." Calum looked around for the lorazepam. Luke nodded while Michael wrote everything down at the white board.

"Put in 30cc of lorazepam and hang another bag of Lactated Ringers," Luke spoke, "and Mickey cut open her clothes once you're done because we need to know the full extant of this."

Luke walked around towards the phone that hung at the end of the wall. Calum found the lorazepam in the meanwhile and injected it into the iv. Stella her body relaxed and Calum put a mouthpiece with oxygen over the girls head.

" Hello? " Luke answered the phone, "can I book an MRI? 17 year old female. Had an accident. Extant of injuries unknown." Luke was waiting for a reply and turned the line of the phone around his finger. As he waited, he watched Michael cutting the clothes and Ashton running into the scene.

"How is she," Ashton asked as Michael was still cutting the clothes. "Don't know," Michael shrugged, "but you found her on oncology right?"

Ashton nodded. "Yeah," he answered, "I was on my way to undo chemo by a patient and I found her standing at the sink doing some flowers. As she turned around I noticed her completely batches up. She told me that she had an accident but I could ask further since she fainted."

"Yeah alright MRI is ready is 15," Luke spoke, "in the meantime stich up her chin Michael."

Michael nodded at Luke and started to gather the things. "Ash give her shots please in her chin," he ordered. Ashton rushed towards Michael his side with the needles and numbed the area. "Alright suture with interrupterd structure." Michael nodded to Luke who was busy taking Stella her vitals and making sure she didn't die under his watch.

As Michael was busy stiching and Calum left because he got called back to oncology, Luke decided to take a look at the clothes that Michael didn't have time to cut of.

Luke started at the bottom of her t-shirt and fear immediately struck his eyes. Ashton noticed and stood by Luke within seconds.

"What is it?" Ashton asked. Luke pointed to the saturation that was fluctuating. "somehow she isn't getting enough air," he responded.

"Traumatic pneumatorax?" Michael asked as he was still busy doing the stitches. Luke nodded and asked Ashton to get a needle for him. Uke began to look where the chest was moving paradoxically and where he should insirt the needle.

He noticed that the right side of Stella her chest wasn't moving as good as the left.

Ashton came back handing over the needle Luke had asked for.

With a bout, Luke began to trail two ribs down. As he found the spot he placed the needle in and soon the room filled with the sound of escaping air.

"Great stats are rising," Luke said satisfied, "if you're done Mickey than we can move her towards the MRI."

Michael nodded and got the last four stitches into her chin. Once Michael was done, all the boys walked towards the MRI.

**

"On my count," Luke spoke, "one, two, three." By three all the boys lifted Stella over towards the other bed. "Ash hang another bag of Lactaded Ringe and than she can go in," Michael told the oncology nurse. Ashton nodded and did what the other two asked him.

Michael and Luke got already to the room where they were starting up the computers. Luke logged in and waited for Ashton to shift the bed into the MRI.

" Pffff," Luke said as he slid down in the chair, "I just can't get my head around it. Ashton finds her like this but like did she drove herself? Her leg is completely shattered. I can't seem to get her BP higher."

"And than the seizure," Michael added. He sat down in the other chair spinning himself around and waited for the pictures to show up. "Alright Ash come here we're ready," Luke spoke through the microphone. Ashton nodded and walked up to the room the other two boys already sat.

"What you think?" Ashton wondered. "That leg is completely shattered," Luke started, "she has a traumatic pneumatorax. I'm afraid for brain damage and internal bleeding since I can't seem to get that BP high."

"Scans of neuro coming up," Michael said as he watched the pictures plopping up his screen. Luke took a close look since he used to study for neuro but found general more interesting. Since the hospital was short staffed at the moment he could identify the pictures himself.

" It's nothing major now," Luke spoke feeling relieved. "But why is she than still unconscious and had a seizure," Ashton wondered.

"Probs of a severy concusion or pain."

Luke didn't havt to wait long for that answered because suddenly Michael shot up and ran into the room.

The abdominal pictures had turned up and there was a massive bleed. Luke got shocked by the sight and it was even a miracle that this girl was alive.

"Oww God," Luke spoke as he ran into the same room, "Ashton book an OR now!"

Michael lifted Stella up and laid her down on the gurney.

"Run," Michael brought out. He and Ashton started running with the gruney knowing Stella was a ticking timebomb now.

As they waited for the elivator Michael, who was standing at the head end of the gurney, got his hand through her hair.

"Listen to me little one," he whispered, "promise me you won't die right now yeah. You're grandpa needs you."

Luke smiled and pulled the gurney into the elivator.

"I'll book the XR when we're there because we haven't got a clear few on her leg," Luke suggested. Michael nodded and before they knew it, the elivator came to a halt.

Ashton was standing already in scrubs and hold the door open of the OR he had booked.

"I'll go scrub," Luke spoke as he handed the gruney over to Ashton, "than I'll call X-ray." Ashton sighed and told the boys he already had done that.

Michael smiled back and wachted Ashton take Stella into surgery with the anesthetic.

Michael scrubbed as well and walked into the room.

Luke had already taken the photos of her leg and waited for them to develop.

The anesthetic gave the thumbs up that the boys could begin. Michael took a deep breath in since it was a long time ago he was the one preforming an emergency operation. The last time he had done that was a few years ago when he lost his sister, a Jane Doe back than, on the table. When Stella could wheeled into hsi ER room he saw his own sister laying there again. Michael was very attached to his sister and was beyond devistated when he got the news that it was his own sister. He had to step away from the job for 3 years because he couldn't handle it anymore. 2 years ago Michael started again and was now back on the track again.

"Alright," Michael spoke, "doctor Hemmings and doctor Clifford preforming an Exploratory laparotomy on 17 year old Stella Taylor."

Luke grabbed the scalpel as Ashton disinfected the area of Stella her tummy. Luke made an incision that was 5 centimeter under and 5 centimeter above her belly button.

" Alright clamps," Michael asked. Ashton passed them and Michael secured the two things so Luke and he had a better vision.

"Suction," Luke ordered. An intern handed it over and Luke began to suck a lot of blood away. He found the bleeding coming from her liver and splint. "Burner." Luke hold his hand open for the intern to lay it in there. He burned the leaking and sucked away more blood.

Michael looked in as well and found that the burnings got pretty well.

"Alright people," Luek spoke stepping away, "get a tube into her stomach to drain fluids if complications will show up. Close her up and bring her to recovery."

"And Ash," Michael added, "make sure she gets a nice cast from her ankle to her waist."

Ashton nodded and Michael and Luek left the scene.

"It was close," Luke spoke cleaning himself. Michael nodded and looked at the clock. The surgery took 2 full hours.

"Up to oncology?" he asked. Luke nodded to the question by his colleague. "Let's get a man his hopes up."
