Hunter becomes the hunted

AT GOLD BIO LABS

Tom spent around 30 minutes in the fitness room of Gold Labs. There had been a sharp decline in his assignments ever since his hookup with Hannah, which caused him to be suspicious of the entire operation. Originally he had joined in order to put his sleuthing skills to use. It had all been a ploy to subject him to lab tests day in, day out.

He decided he was done. And he wasn't the only test subject that had fallen for Roselyn's trap.

A potent spray of tranquilliser began to filter into the fitness room. It reached Tom's nose and completely overwhelmed him. This was strange because he had a high resilience to such toxins. He hit the ground, almost convulsing until the last thing he saw were the boots of lab guards. The world went dark as he slipped into unconsciousness.

The head scientist and his assistant strapped Tom down to the bed in the lab room. David, the head, turned to find the newly procured serum that had been sent from their warehouse. The serum was not fit for human use, but Rose was determined to smear Hannah's name in the biotech field. It was the perfect cover up in the industry.

The assistant laid out a set of surgical tools next to the bed. No one knew how deep they were going to take this test. Not even Roselyn herself.

There is one thing that human nature dictates.

Never turn your back to the enemy.

And these doctors committed this exact cardinal sin.

Tom's dark green eyes shot open as he cracked his wrist free of the restraints. In a single movement, he raised his hand and broke the assistant's neck. Sitting up like a vampire awakening from the coffin, he eyed a scalpel on the tray next to him. Before David could scream, the scalpel flew through the air and wedged itself clean in his chest. The sound of Tom's boots filled the silent room as he took out the other scientists in the control room.

He was no longer a test subject. He was truly a full blown assassin, claiming his freedom.

The breach triggered an alarm in the facility, alerting the armed guards that were stationed throughout the building. Each corridor Tom turned, there was another assault rifle pointed at him. But these men, no matter how armed to the teeth they were, stood no chance against a well trained assassin. No matter how much they resisted, they always lost. He moved with the grace of the wind on a spring day but left a deadly trail in his wake. He continued his onslaught until he reached a locker room.

Cracking open a locker, he donned his gauntlets, sniped a bag and loaded two pistols. Tom made his way up to the roof as someone seemed to keep his path clear. He busted the door to the final stairwell and was seconds away from freedom.

"So you were breaking free. Roselyn was right about you. You were too strong for this program."

Tom turned around to see one of the people he despised most in the world. The same bitch with white hair who kept hovering over him ever since he stepped foot into Gold Labs. Her name was Angelina. She too was like him. An enhanced mutant. Her powers were atmospheric in nature. It could be the coldest day of winter and she could make the room feel like summer. But compared to what Tom could do? She was a baby.

Tom edged towards the ledge as he confronted her.

"You were right. I never wanted this. I didn't sign up to be someone's puppet."

"You're not a puppet. You, my friend, were the key to help us understand mutants better. You're already at the peak of your power! Think what you could do if you expand your potential!"

"Key? That's the bullshit she's ramming down your throat? Well. Keep telling yourself that then."

"It's the truth! Come with me, Tom. Let's make history. Together."

Angelina outstretched her slender hand to him... Only for Tom to fall over the roof edge.

"NOOOOOO!"

What happened? :O

And who was keeping his path clear in such a crowded building?
