"It is probably nothing. Stay calm." Spade looked around. The morning was dark and cloudy, and it had already been rather cold, so that the change in temperature left Serenica hoping for a warmer coat.

"Is that you?" she asked.

"It's not me," the king-captain said. His eyes were a little wider. Serenica thought she saw something dark in them, something that moved, something that had a purple tint, too vibrant, too unnatural in shade to be a part of the normal play of light in his irises.

Serenica heard a mouse squeak in terror.

Then Spade spoke, and his voice was not his own. Rather, it echoed too deeply, and yet there was a feminine melody in it. It was feasible that he could change his voice like that, but in this situation, he had no reason to do so and scare the healer so badly.
