Chapter 29: THE BOY ABOVE

I couldn't help but keep an eye on them,

But so long as I'm concerned, they weren't doing any harm,

That after a week I gave up and just dropped down my questions,

So did the others, and it seemed to be a good decision.

They were nurturing, and kept us fed although I don't know where those come from,

They kept us clean, and the supplies seemed endless, so as the water from the drum,

They also gave us clothes, and even those we didn't asked for,

To the point that we trusted them truly, for giving us all this countless favors.

I expected them to ask for something in return,

But there were none, that they wanted to have,

So sometimes I ask myself,

What did we do to deserve all this love?

And between the comfort that we have I also wonder,

Do survivors from the other side also have this kind of creatures?

These guardians, this people, who always provide them with needs,

Or maybe just have enough supply at least?

My worry seemed to be showing,

As one angel approached me, with a smile so comforting,

Then he listened to all my rants, and all my thoughts all night,

And he told me that things, will all be alright.

I asked him why the heavens approved for this to happen,

Then he replied that they are cleansing, those people worthy, of going to heaven,

Then I nodded and felt thankful, that we are one of the few chosen,

"Just promise me, one thing will never be broken,"

The angel told us not to leave these very chambers,

Until the day, the zombies die on their own,

They told us that they'll give us food, and all we need,

For if we escaped, surely there are a lot of monsters to feed.

We all agreed and was obedient,

I dare not question them, as what else to question?

Doubting them this point, had no real reason,

So I trusted them in turn, but as time passed by this chamber seems like prison.

I felt like a pig, just being fed to die,

Or a mere child, that only eats and cry,

And as time passed by, I felt bored with all this comfort,

I was alive, but I felt dead inside.

And then one night, as everyone was sleeping,

I heard a thing, crawled up the rooftop, peeking,

And I felt the urge, to look at it, to find it,

With every mean, I did my best to find it.

Carefully I opened, the door,

And looked at the hole on the roof,

In where we once came to,

A boy was peeking, at the sleeping Angels gathered below,

It looked at me and smiled,

And with his tiny hands,

He gestured me to follow.

Just who is this boy I asked myself,

He was dark, and tiny,

With dark black hair.

I tried to remember, the words the angels spoke,

But it felt like I've been controlled,

Because my body was moving on its own,

Quiet steps I take,

As I felt quite a chill on my bone.

I saw the rope that Robert once lost,

Inside a jar near the hole on the top,

I carefully pulled it out, but how can I put it up without making a sound?

The boy smiled and snapped his fingers,

And just like that the rope was up,

What kind of creature is this boy?

Then he gestured me to come up.

I followed him, and almost fell,

But he held my hand, and his grip was well,

He pulled me up, and I felt afraid,

What if the Angels found out?

Would they send me to hell?

I gulped but I remained, as attracted to the outside,

Even with the constant yapping of beasts,

I long waited to smell and see the sky above.

The boy then looked worried,

And pointed far away.

"You must leave immediately,

Or your life will be in dismay,"

I felt confused,

But all the more curious,

What could be the danger,

When I'm with angels?

Then as if he read my mind,

He looked at me with horror in his eyes,

"Don't be fooled by what you see,"

What looks like an angel,

Can be your worst enemy,"

It spoke and reminded me, about the saying in my dreams,

And suddenly fear entered my body, ever so extreme.

I gulped and asked him, just what does he mean.

He looked at me softly, and said...

"That's the reason why you don't yet dream..."

It sent a chill across my spine,

And I don't know, if I'm yet fine,

But all I know is that I'm uncertain,

On who to believe,

My sides have been broken.

"Do you want to know what I see?" The boy asked me suddenly,

And I nodded slowly,

Then he touched my eyes and let go of me.

"Look again, look at those who nursed you,"

And I did.

And all I saw were horned devils below me,

I felt like throwing up, then that must mean they're all in trouble,

But what about the things they asked for?

Are all those really just favors?

"The food you ate, aren't really food,"

The angel replied, and I felt frozen in my hood,

"Then what are they?" I asked shivering,

"They were raw meat, some even human meat,

and they all didn't come from nothing,"

My eyes grew big, and I couldn't believe,

Just what sin, those creatures willingly give,

The times we ate happily, we were grinding human meat?

Upon the realization, I felt like throwing on my seat.

The creature held my hand, and told me to go back,

To persuade those who believes,

And leave all who only liked to snack,

I felt shaken, fearful, now that I can see their true faces,

That night I discovered, that demons can shapeshift as well as angels.
