Chapter 249: An Empty Glimpse

Hanna nearly jumped out of her skin! Whipping her head around she was met with a near equally startled face. Fortunately, this face turned out to be someone she did not expect to see.

“Sorry Hanna!” Sadie squeaked pulling her hand away and up to her mouth to mask her own surprise. “I did not intend to scare you like that.”

Relieved, Hanna let out a heavy sigh. “Th-that’s alright. I just wasn’t expecting anyone to be behind me.”

Sadie nodded understandingly. “I feel that way myself a lot. Mind I ask what you are doing out here? I heard from Mary that you are grounded for the time being and were supposed to be helping Joan with chores and stuff.”

Hanna stuttered as she tried to think of an answer. “Um, I saw the, uh, firetruck light from inside and thought that I, um, could kind of take a break to see what was happening. I mean, being grounded sucks and all I was doing was sitting around in Aunt Lisa’s room doing nothing anyway.”
