- Daddy, Daddy... Daddy!... DADDDY!!! (Yrsa)
Where ... where did I make a mistake, how did I deserve it?
If not my eldest daughter, then Bjorn would wake me up ... and today was my daughter's day. Yrsa was sitting on the bed and with every shout of "Daddy" she slapped her hand on the back... Only eleven or twelve years until the end of her sentence ... then I will find her husband and I will finally sleep ... Good thing it is not the 21st century, because I would not get rid of her until she was thirty.
I even started calling Yrsa "Honey" ... but not because she was so sweet, it was short for Honey Badger.
- Yes, honey? Daddy isn't sleeping anymore ... is something wrong? (Ulf)
- Daddy ... there's something under my bed ... (Yrsa)
Knowing my house, it was possible, but Yrsa shouldn't have seen it, no one had seen them except me ... whether I wanted to or not, I had to get up and check it out.
Of course, I got dressed, grabbed the ax that hung on the wall ... maybe my daughter was right, maybe not ... but being careful won't hurt.
I remember once I told my mother that there was a monster in my bed ... She told me to drink less and be careful what I brought from the club ... how long has it been ... I think 140 or 150 years.
I opened the door to Yrsa's room, it was dim ... unfortunately I didn't have a candle with me. I made my way to my daughter's bed ... after taking two steps I felt pain in my right foot... fucking hell ... I stepped on the wooden block.
I didn't want to scream, but it hurt as if some midget was stabbing me in the foot. I gritted my teeth and limped over to the bed, bent down to find out what was underneath it ... and there was nothing. Maybe something was there and it ran away, or maybe Yrsa had a bad dream ... but I did my job.
I went back to my bedroom, opened the door ... Yrsa fell asleep in our bed, cuddled up to Lagertha, and Hild got up because Bjorn woke up... I hate my life.
All I could do was go downstairs and slowly start to prepare breakfast ... I lit it in the oven, cut the chicken breast, salted and fried it with onion, then I put a few eggs in the pans, a pleasant smell spread through the kitchen ... Mother and her child two generations will serve as my meal... As I finished preparing food, Lagertha with the kids and Hild appeared downstairs. Scrambled eggs cheered me up a bit and I was ready to do some work.
The first thing I did was go to Floki, I wanted to find out how many new ships he will be able to build this year ... When I got to his house, Helga opened the door ... naked. She wasn't embarrassed or anything ... maybe because I've seen her in more embarrassing situations.
- Hello Helga, is Floki here? (Ulf)
- Yes, I'll get him. (Helga)
She let me in, handed me a beer and went to get Floki ... after a few minutes she came back.
- He said he'd be coming soon. (Helga)
- Get dressed, I don't want Floki thinking anything. (Ulf)
- You do not find me attractive? and Floki is not jealous. (Helga)
- I know he is not the jealous type ... I saw it with my own eyes ... but I'm not made of stone either, so dress up before I do something that I will regret later. (Ulf)
Fortunately, Helga listened to me, and a few minutes later Floki came over.
- Something happened? You don't visit me too often. (Floki)
- Because you live in a forest and nothing happened, I just wanted to know how many ships will be built this year, do you need more wood, slaves. (Ulf)
- And how many (giggles) do you need? (Floki)
- At least 600, but the more the better. (Ulf)
- 600? By Gods, why do you need so much? Are you planning a giggle? So many ships ... it could carry over 30,000 people. (Floki)
- 36 thousand people and a lot of supplies, how long will it take? (Ulf)
- Even if you give me an extra two hundred slaves and lots of lumber, three or four years ... 150 to 200 ships a year ... no, definitely four. (Floki)
- It will send you slaves and wood, but I want 150 new ships next year. (Ulf)
- What are you planning (giggle)? (Floki)
- Make the impossible possible. (Ulf)
I spent another hour at his house, then I said goodbye and went to my Slavic village.
After reaching the place, I instructed their elders to increase the number of arable lands and build new houses, I also warned them that new inhabitants would come to the village.
With these two things sorted out, I had moments of free time to myself ... Of course I was wrong when you are a parent, the notion of free time becomes something abstract.
- Daddy, tell me a story ... (Yrsa)
- But only one and then dad comes back to work ... I'll tell you the legend of the Fern Flower. (Ulf)
"On the shortest night of the year, an unusual flower blooms for a short while. Few managed to see it because it is extremely difficult. It is not known whether it will bloom in a place with many ferns or in a place with one small, inconspicuous and lost one. Sometimes all you need is a bit of luck at midnight when it blossoms on that one extraordinary Midsummer Night.
Many years ago, little Michał lived in one of the villages. One day the boy heard a story about a miraculous fern flower. People often told beautiful and amazing stories about him. When a child listened to this story, he was lost in the world of his imagination, and unusual images appeared before his eyes. The boy saw almost everything that the storytellers said - the wealth, the treasures that the finder of the fern flower brings, but he could not imagine the wisdom and knowledge that no one else has. In his dreams Michał did not see the flower itself, but it was not a problem for him, he imagined its unusual shapes of tiny leaves, delicately shimmering with colors. However, the fern flower was to be guarded by various powers that protected it from the eyes of curious people..."
Fortunately, Yrsa fell asleep.
