Ingrid wanted Issei alive.
I didn't.
Well, that wasn't a hundred percent accurate, I didn't want Issei to remain a human whereas Ingrid did because it kept him out of the Moonlight World. He possessed a Sacred Gear, one that made him despite his many character flaws, the main character, one that Rias Gremory wanted. I wanted to be afforded the protection of the Satan, the best way to do that would be to use Issei to get it.
Him becoming a Devil in the Peerage of Rias Gremory would automatically provide me protection due to association. But that conflict of interest between me and Ingrid remained, though she didn't know that. I had done pretty well at hiding my true intentions for tonight, though Ingrid's frantically worried mind helped me to sneak under her radar much easier than I would have done in the past.
Luckily for me, Ingrid was a cautious person and didn't want to do anything that could put a target on her back and by extension the rest of the Hyoudou family. I had happily volunteered to watch over Issei for the day, even going so far as to promise to do as much as I could to save his life just to appease her.
So I had no reason to worry about her suddenly appearing and I could twist the facts to suit my need. I had worked hard, trying to force myself to go over what I remembered of the first episodes of the DxD story to try and figure out what was going to go down.
All I've got is that Issei is killed by a spear of light or something along those lines by his date who reveals herself as a Fallen Angel. Then, as Issei lay dying, Rias would conveniently appear to revive him just in time. Effectively putting Issei in her debt and if she was cunning enough to do so, put Ingrid and naively believe I would be in her debt as well.
Overall, it could become a very successful evening for Rias, instead, I was going to flip that right around. How you might ask? Well, you'll just have to wait and see as I could see the main event starting to take place.
The date, a very boring and generic date had finally come to an end, thank god for that. Issei and his girlfriend whose name escaped me were entering into the pack after coming from the restaurant they had just eaten at. My day was going to finally get interesting. Do you know how mind-numbingly boring it is to watch your brother on a date? And yes, I know exactly how weird that sounds, so don't say a word.
But things had come to a close at long last as I watched silently from a distance, crouched down behind a number of bushes and trees, my heart rate slowed with a meditative technique I had learned.
The two came to a stop before a fountain, she turning to Issei who looked incredibly excited for what was to come. Keep it in your pants mate, she's going to kill you long before those lips of yours touch any part of her body. I also don't think that he realises he's not going to be the one impaling her and that he is instead going to be the one impaled if you know what I mean.
I really needed to get this night over with.
I'm so bored.
For fucks sake will this woman hurry up, I haven't got all night!
Seriously, she's still not doing anything.
Did I get the day wrong?
Did I miss something?
Is she even a Fallen Angel?
Fucksake don't tell me I wasted my entire Saturday afternoon following my brother on his boring-ass date purely to be left hanging like this?
Why isn't she doing anything?!
Do something?
Anything?
Ah, I'm losing my mind here!
Oh wait, she is doing something.
Perking up, I watched as Issei's girlfriend pulled away leaving my brother blinking in surprise at something she had said. His eyes and jaw-dropping were similar to mine as her outfit seemed to break apart into tiny bits of fabric, black leather-like cloth wrapping around her body that grow in all ways. Two black wings spread out from her back.
Okay.
She's a bondage queen.
And I'm hesitant to even call that an outfit.
But I am not complaining, because, well damn.
I'm surprised that those straps that cover her nipples are even staying in place because her breasts are huge.
Why did I even stop watching the anime if I was treated to sights like these?
Issei then cried out in shock, hands grasping around the spear of light sticking into his chest. Oh, that's right, Issei, he was the reason. He's also the reason why I am here tonight. Get your head in the game Mikoto, time to act and then you can visit Megumi tonight and work off all this pent up tension.
Waiting for the Fallen Angel to leave, I quickly rushed out. "Issei, are you okay?" I called out, crouching down beside him. His eyes slowly went unfocused, but still reached out for me. Good, he still had enough consciousness to recognise me, that would at least work towards convincing Ingrid that I was here and help back up the story of me trying to save his life, a complete fabrication though it may be.
Making sure to scrunch up my face, I frowned deeply. "I'm sorry," I whispered, standing up and pulling my bloody hands away from the gaping hole in his stomach. They were coated in his blood, just as I wanted them to be and I turned away, looking to the sky. "I can't do anything for you, but rest assured, she'll pay for this."
God, that was so cringy, how can anime protagonists say this without feeling their skin crawl at how corny it sounds.
However, my task here was done, Rias would be no doubt arriving soon so I needed to now make my way to the church. This had been my real aim all along, to once and for all, test my skills in a fight against someone who would come and kill me while making my entrance into the Moonlight World.
Let the fun begin.
-X- Line Break -X-
Frowning, Kalawarner warily kept watching from her position on the roof of the church. It was broken down and no longer in use, but it was still Holy Ground, meaning it was outside the jurisdiction of the Devils, in though it technically resided within their territory. She didn't like it though, being here nor for the reasons they were here for either.
Hunting Sacred Gear Wielders was not an uncommon practice. It was something many did, unless they had a way to keep them in check, it was best to simply kill them before they could grow too strong, especially Longinus Wielders. However, to blatantly enter Devil territory to do so? To blatantly enter Devil territory overseen by the younger siblings of two Satans? That was crazy, plain and simple.
Kalawarner would have nothing to do with it in most cases, if not for the offer she had received. She was a low ranked Fallen Angel, even after centuries of existence, she still only possessed a single pair of wings. It often left her to the whims of others within the Grigori, forced to serve their every desire, unable to stop or resist them.
She was tired of it, Kalawarner just wanted to be free of it all and so, when this offer had come through, a dangerous task but with a reward to equal it, Kalawarner had not hesitated to accept. Whether she succeeded or died, did not matter, either way, Kalawarner would be freed from her hellish existence in one form or another. That's all that mattered to her now, escaping her current life and forging a new one.
Something that was easier said than done.
The chance of success was small, there were too many figures within Kuoh and they were not only a few in number but weak also. Raynare was the strongest of them, nearing that border between ascension. However, she, Mittelt and Dohnaseek were far off from such a stage, even after their long existences.
Weak individuals with similarly miserable existences, coming together for a singular goal. The only difference though was that Kalawarner knew her limits and had already accepted the most likely fate that awaited her during this mission.
Death.
The others may not want to accept it, but it was the truth. They would die before they got a chance to succeed, the Devils would interfere with their plans and render them meaningless. Kalawarner knew that, but at this point, she was past caring.
Even if it meant death, it would be an escape from this miserable existence.
Seeing Raynare approaching from the distance, Kalawarner rose up, knowing that the first part of their mission must have gone ahead. Issei Hyoudou, the possessor of a Dragon-Type Sacred Gear was dead. Now they simply had to bunker down and wait for the next phase to being.
It was here, that Kalawarner knew that death would be most likely.
She just wished it was a quick and painless one.
