still shiping him with rogue. and some people are quite ignorant, saying shitty hero and all those things. for what reason he is building and collecting powers for? to hide and look like someone completely normal? I doubt that, it is simply to eliminate the future threats on earth, that make him a 'Hero' like it or not. he may see it like "I did it for myself" or "I just eliminated a threat that may endanger me" . . . . but for other people it's "he beat the villain/crazy killer/mad titan . . . . and saved us." so he may been beating villains for himself, but for people he will be the 'HERO' who saved the day by defeating the villain. so what will you do in this case mr. don't make him be a shitty hero? he may consider himself neutural but people will consider him a 'HERO' so it's just impossible to do what you want him to. unless you want him to go hide somewhere making all his work to grow strong, and all the powers he collected be 'useless'.
