Chapter 41

Austin and Courtney found Jake and Grams in a waiting room of Athens Regional Medical Center, huddled together holding hands.

Courtney sat on the chair next to Grams and rubbed her hand over her back. She glanced around the cold room, decorated in an attempt to mask visitors true whereabouts. Large artificial plants were propped in the corners as magazines lay scattered across the tables. Cheap prints of neutral colors in abstract art were hung on the peach-colored walls.

It was enough to make anyone go crazy.

Jake jerked his chin up when Austin sat next to him. "I was working on the cabinets for the Murphy's kitchen. I found her face down on the floor when I came in for a bottle of water. She was barely breathing." He ran a shaking hand down his face.

"It's all right." Austin squeezed his shoulder. "Have they told you anything yet?"

"No. It's been two hours."
