Winter dance

Weeks passed after the night Christian came over. After that night, it was like something shifted between us and we became closer. Anytime I had a nightmare, it was either he came over or we spoke over the phone till I fell asleep.

My mom came back from her trip two days ago and I wasn't sure if it was me or if she was actually glowing. I would've asked her but that woman hates my guts. The day she came back, my dad was home and I think he noticed the change in her too because he angrily stomped out of the house slamming the door behind him. Tyler wasn't home probably at his friend's because he doesn't like staying home at this time of the year.

"Earth to Ashley." Trish snapped her fingers in front of my face bringing me out of my thoughts.

"Hey."

"Really. Hey?"

"I'm sorry what did you say?"

"I said you ready for the mid terms?" Mid terms were coming up next week and I wasn't really ready.

"Um...no?"

"Yeah me too." She sighed and picked on her food. We were currently at lunch and I was munching on my apples while  Trish hasn't touched my food.

"OH OH OH MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!" A voice shouted from the entrance of the lunch room.

"Christian stop being stupid and come sit down!" Trish shouted at him.

"Hey peeps." Christian said when he got to our table.

"Christian you know Christmas is in two weeks right?" Trish asked him when he sat down.

"So?" He took one of my apples and took a bite out of it.

"You are stupid."

"But you still love me."

"Unfortunately. So Ash, your family started decorating for Christmas yet?"

"Um.....we..um...we don't celebrate Christmas."

"WHAT!!!! WHY??" Trish exclaimed and a few heads turned towards us

"Trish would keep your voice down." Christian glared at her.

"Oh sorry." She whispered and looked those looking at us "WHAT Y'ALL LOOKING AT???" She asked and they quickly returned to their business. "Well?"

"Um.... It was around this time the accident happened." I looked down playing with my fingers.

"Oh my gosh Ash." Trish said.

"No it's okay."

"When?" Christian asked.

"What?" I looked up

"When did it happen?"

"Oh. Few days after Christmas."

Christian kept quiet and Trish looked like she wanted to cry.

"So what are you guys always doing this time of the year?" Trish asked.

"Um...well, my mom always locks herself in her room drinking, my dad buries himself in work so he doesn't have to come home and my brother crashes at his friend's home so basically I'm always alone." I said feeling threatening tears coming.

"Oh Ashley, why don't you join us this year?" Trish asked

"Really?"

"Yeah. I'm sure mom won't mind. The more the merrier and you can even stay till new year."

"Thanks." I said smiling.

"No problem."

"Hey Ashley." I turned my head towards the person calling my name standing at our table. Paul Turner. A male slut. Passes through girls like he passes through his boxers. He sleeps with a new girl every new week like it's nothing. With his brown curls, black eyes, pointed nose and sharp jaw, he's handsome but also an idiot so I'm not interested. He's also the basketball's team captain and a jerk.

"What?" I snapped at him.

"Woah. I was wondering, you, me, winter dance. How about that?" He asked smirking and I looked at Trish who was looking at him shocked and at Christian who looked as if he wanted to rip Paul apart.

"Well, I was wondering, you" I pointed at him "my fist and your face? How about that?" I pointed at my fist then his face then smiled. I heard Christian chuckle beside me.

"Wow, fiesty. I like it."

"Wow, stupid. I hate you." I fake smiled.

"I knew you were tough but I never knew you were this tough. I should talk to you more often."

"I knew you were stupid but I never knew you were this stupid.Oh wait! I always knew. I should avoid you more often." Trish burst into laughter and Paul stared at her.

"What?! It's not like she lying." Trish stated.

"So I would take it as a no?" He asked facing me once again.

"So I would take it as you're deaf?"

"Bitch." He said.

"Pussy." I returned and he walked away.

"That's my girl." Trish said after he had gone.

"I never knew you could be like this?" Christian spoke up.

"What can I say, I'm full of surprises." I said with a smirk.

"So did Caleb finally ask you to the dance?" I asked Trish as we neared her car and she blushed the mention of this name. Trish and Caleb had grown closer over the past few months and I am sure he's head over heels for her. I'm sure he would ask her out any minute now.

"Um.....not yet." She muttered.

"Why?"

"I don't know, maybe he doesn't want to go with me and-"

"No Trish. No no no. The guy likes you very much. Maybe he's just scared."

"Scared?"

"Yeah. Don't you know you are one scary bitch?" She smiled as she unlocked her car

"Well-"

"Yo sis you going already?" Christian interrupted her.

"Hey dickhead." Trish said.

"Oh my god Trisha. Did you just call me a dickhead? Ouch my sister, ouch." He stopped in his tracks and put his hand over his heart feigning hurt.

"Drama queen." Trish said and opened her door and I laughed. "C'mon Ash, let's go."

"Wait! I need to talk to Ash for a sec."

"Why?" Both Trish and I asked together.

"Well, I want to discuss with my friend is that a problem?"

"Well, yeah it is." Trish stated.

"Do not give notice to her, of course you can talk to me." I said to Christian.

"Ouch." Christian said

"Okay. Rude much!" Trish stated towards me

"Calm down Trish. See you later." I waved to her and walked towards Christian's car.

Christian got to his car before me and opened the car door for me and I blushed

"Thanks." I said as I entered.

"No problem." He shut my door, rounded the car, got in and started driving.

"So you said you wanted to talk?" I asked striking up a conversation.

"Oh yeah. I wanted to know if you got a date to the dance." He asked scratching his neck.

     What?

"What?" I asked shocked

"Like do you have anyone taking you to the dance?"

"Nope."

"Oh so-"

"Even if someone did ask me I wouldn't go." I interrupted him.

"Why?"

"Well, first, I hate wearing a dress, second, the first time I went, it was as boring as fuck, third I hate dancing, fourth,I-"

"Maybe you didn't have a date that's why you thought it was boring." He suggested.

"Oh trust me I did have a date but he was boring making everything more boring."

"What if I took you, would I be boring?"

"And why the hell would you want to take me?"

"Maybe I want to."

"Yeah right." I said looking out the window.

"Okay let's just say I want to?" He tried again.

"Then no."

"No?" I could hear disappointment in his voice and I turned to look at him.

"Like c'mon. Okay let's see it like this. You take me, but when we get there, what exactly are going to be doing? Nothing. Nothing but just looking at everyone like idiots and to me, it's all about girls showing off who's best dressed and guys with their best cars." I say a little bit angry.

"Wow you really don't like it."

"Like I said it's boring and stupid." I stated.

"But that was what? Three, four years ago? C'mon panda, things would have changed. Lets give it a trial and I bet it could be different." He said his voice somewhat pleading.

"Okay. If you did ask me, maybe, just maybe I would think about it." By the time I finished, he had parked in my driveway.

"Wait here." He got down rounded the car and opened the door for me.

"Thanks." I said as I got down. I didn't know he walked me to my front door until he cleared his throat.

"You are still here?" I asked surprised.

"Yeah. Um...so" He scratched the back of his neck and looked down. Something I know he does when he's nervous. I tilted my head to look at him wondering what could make him nervous.

"So?" I urged him.

"Well, will....." He clearly have throat again. "Will you go to the winter dance with me?" He coughed and his eyes held a hint of hope in it.

My eyes widened in realization that he had been asking me all those questions so he could ask me to the dance.

    Great. I fucked up.

I mentally hit myself. Before I could say anything, he spoke up,

"Well I've been trying to ask you since but the way you spoke to Paul and then what you said in the car, I wasn't so sure and don't worry. I would definitely make it fun." He babbled.

Aww he's cute when he talks in a rush.

Wow where did that come from?

"Well yes"

"Yes?"

"Yes."

"You sure?" He asked happily.

"Very."

"Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god." He repeated running his hand through his hair. "I didn't know what you would say so I was kinda scared. Oh my god thanks and bye." He gave me a quick hug and walked away.

"Bye." I said with a smile and walked inside. Shutting the door behind me.

Heyo!!!!! It's me again.
