He killed the man in an instant without any hesitation. His body was not under his control because of the rage which has engulfed him suddenly.

Also the dragon's aura made him think like that of a predator which was why he didn't show any kind of mercy to the man.

But as soon as he killed him, he regained his senses and reasoning and was immediately baffled at the sight.

"W-what did I do just now?", he couldn't believe himself.

He didn't want to kill anyone if he could subdue them and he indeed could have done that but it seemed as if he had neglected that option after hearing the man trash talking.
