Neron listened to the words of his father and felt an intense sadness, Sonnis taken from him. Craftus had presented no desire to take her back. He listened to the end of Craftus speaking, when Balyn questions that power of Onicent and Maiguh together. Craftus however assure them all that he could control them easily with his prisoners.
Neron felt further and further from the others, they were battle hungry, he could see it in their eyes and there tense bodies. All except Ilo who seemed to fade out.
That was the first time that Neron caught the eye of the one of the prisoners, a younger girl who had greenish skin. Like an echo through his head he felt something. Somehow he knew her.
When Craftus had left the room, as had the others. They planned to rest for a day before their final assault. Neron did not follow, instead he walked to her cage and looked in on her.
"I know you, but I know not how." He told her quietly. "Who are you?"
"Lyris," she said quietly.
"Do you know me?" He asked her, knowing it sounded ridiculous.
She shook her head.
Neron stared for a moment, "I knew you long ago I think."
She still seemed confused. Neron focused on her face and tried to match it to something, then like a light in the dark he remembered something so faintly.
"Singing," he said quietly, "there was singing."
"My sister Hermyra is goddess of music." She said.
"Who is your father?" Neron asked.
"Epis," she answered.
Epis, Neron had seen him, he had a constant weight to him, like he was being pulled by grief for something. The last time Neron had seen him, Craftus had sent him away, just before that though, the girls Araia had said something. Something about Epis's son.
"Epis had a son?" Neron asked her.
She nodded and her eyes closed slightly, "yes, he was lost when my mother died. My father was never the same. Is he here?" She asked in a pained way.
"No," Neron answered, he was feeling less and less settled.
Lyris looked down at her feet, "my brother fell into the sea, never seen again. I lost my mother and now my father." She added, "you don't seem like the others here. What are you doing here?"
"My parents abandon me." He told her, "when I was young." He paused, "when did I hear your sister sing?"
She shook her head.
Neron thought of the words again and again.
Lyris though was getting a curious expression on her face. "My brother was named Norin, but he was human."
Neron nodded slightly. "I was human too."
They looked again into each others eyes for a long moment, searching for something.
"Your my sister." Neron said, "I remember you now."
He did remember her faintly, and his mother, it seemed to come back to him in small ripples of thought.
Lyris closed her eyes, tears starting to form in them and fell between the lids of them. "We searched for you, you weren't abandon, my father lost his mind in grief. He would have given anything for you and my mother. He loved you dearly."
Neron felt a rise of anger, "Craftus told me my family left me, and all this time! Now he is holding you prisoner!" Neron gripped onto the bars.
"We mourned for you Norin, our music and words went for you." Lyris shook her head, "but you'll join us in a moment if you continue. I saw your face when you found out about Sonnis, you care for her don't you?"
"I do very much." Neron told her.
"The one beside me is her mother Farren, and her brother. She will not know how her family has been hurt."
"The Dragon promised to not harm them."
Lyris lowered her voice, "he lied to you, we cared so much Norin. I want desperately to wrap my arms around you." She sounded bitter, "you grew without us, you've grown wonderfully, I just wished mom had been here to see it, or my father."
Neron looked at his feet.
She whispered again, "go Norin, please, help your sister, she's out there. Help Sonnis before it's too late."
When Craftus left to begin his final attack Neron slipped out before him, no one noticed he was gone, he set off to find Sonnis and tell her the truth.
