Hermyra and Lyris had became instantly quite popular among the council members, for all enjoyed their beautiful singing and poetry. Much to Ilo's jealousy even Amos seemed to enjoy them. For one night he cried that they should sing again.
Ilo, quite jealous began to sing her own song. But in comparison her voice seemed quite scratchy and weak. Most of the gods and goddess's averted their eyes from her. Thankfully she had regained Amos who effectively swept her into his arms.
Everyone was frankly quite relieved. For no one wanted to anger Ilo, with her magical powers she was terrifying.
The only other ones who didn't enjoy the singers were Epis, who Airabella insisted needed rest and quiet, for he continued to be down and depressed, and Rissa.
Rissa would cover her ears against the noises and generally was terribly rude. So much so that during performances, which had became almost nightly it seemed, Rissa would be sent out.
It was surprising when one night Ilo demanded that Amos be released from his house arrest. She claimed she wished to move her son back out into their own home, and continue to search for their lost daughter, who Ilo said may very well have returned to the house.
Formally it was pointed to that they would need to summon the council, but cleverly Onicent said they had a majority if they all agreed. Onicent and Airabella of course both voted to release Amos. As did Ilo. Leaving Enisia and Epis.
Enisia considered, she did have a sense of justice, but she also saw the discord that Amos and his children were causing for the castle. She disliked Vown as well. In the end, somewhat reluctantly she voted for him to go. Only Epis remained, he was so sad that he barely sat up, rather he sagged in his seat. Airabella had lectured Onicent that Epis should be left in his room. But Onicent insisted Epis be present.
"What is your vote?" Onicent asked, perhaps a bit loudly, for it took a lot to get Epis's attention.
Epis gave a vague nod, which joyfully Onicent took as a yes. He declared Amos and Ilo to be free to go. Afterward Airabella helped to limp Epis to his room muttering angrily about Onicent.
The others dispersed, leaving Onicent with Hermyra and Lyris.
"You both have the most enchanting voices I have heard." Onicent said lightly.
Both Hermyra and Lyris bowed their heads to him. "Thank you lord."
"Perhaps you would grace just me again with your enchanting voices." Onicent said, a smile on his face.
Slightly uncertain, both daughter's began a song together. There voices weaved together into a sorrowful piece that made them both think of their mother. When they finished Onicent had tears glistening in his eyes. What he was remorseful of they would never know.
What neither party was aware of was that Airabella had returned. She expected to find her husband alone and was surprised to see him with the two girls. So she stood in the shadows and watched as Onicent became increasingly complimentary to the performers. Airabella felt flashes of jealousy watching them, so much so they she clenched her hand tightly to the wall and left a mark.
Airabella wanted to take her anger at her husband. But something about the girls stopped her. When Onicent left she came toward them. At first they startled looking frightened.
"My lady, we did not see you, forgive us." Lyris said. Both bowed, looking slightly shaken.
"You are afraid?" she asked.
They looked at each other.
"You don't have to fear me. My husband Onicent is," she paused and didn't continue, but she knew they understood. "I shall help you, my sister Serse is an eternal maiden. I shall send you to her, there you will be safe from Onicent."
Perhaps it was the sweetness of the children, or that they were the daughters of her son. But for once Airabella aided the ones her husband pursued. This small act of mercy would not be defining, for Airabella still carried rage.
