Finding serendipity

Her heart was thumping so hard against her chest, Mary was afraid that someone might hear it. She clutched her fingers closed, taking a deep breath, coaching herself to calm down. Having Marcus Zephanie know and see how shaken she was as of the moment won't do her any good.

Mary silently hoped that the elevator would somehow have some technical issues and delay her arrival in Marcus Zephanie's place. The events from yesterday night were haunting her. 

Was fate that cruel? She came across Shay Zephanie who reminded her of the strange boy with a serpent tattoo. Mary was still unable to figure out why the former had the same mark. Was it possible that Shay Zephanie and the strange boy have something in common? If so, what would that be? Is Shay Zephanie capable of doing some weird things too?
