Driving Her Home

Adonis's POV

"Are you two having a staring contest? At least this is new, you used to banter with each other, and now you are having a silent war." Rich commented, and that is the time I looked away from Maya and I can't keep myself from blushing. I am doing all this to test her if she is still crazy about me because I don't believe her feelings for me will just go away. I felt the slap she gave me was only because of her adrenaline rush because I hurt her when I told her about those stupid things.

"I am just looking at Maya to learn what you have seen in her, as your best friend I am trying to figure out your course of action, I know you since we were young Rich and I get you, but this is the only time I don't understand you at all why you like her to be your friend. There are a lot of beautiful farm assistants in your Hacienda why you choose her, you are just like my sister. Ariana seems to adore her, and I felt there is something about her that only I can't see." I declared since I can't find the right words, and I am not yet ready to confess to my best buddy. And I have to let Maya know first because, for me, it would be improper to let others learn about my feelings towards her, and she doesn't have any idea about it. I realize I made her angry again, but I just hope she will read my intense stares that had a different meaning.

"Adonis, this is likewise the first time that I don't get you. Maya differs from everyone I know, I am still friends with the other farm helpers, but I love Maya's company because she is not only beautiful, but she is a great person if you will allow yourself a chance to know her. Now, if you have a problem with it, I hope you will talk to me alone, not in front of Maya. I need you to respect my choice." Rich answered, and I want to hug my strongest friend right now. He told me to give myself a chance to know Maya, at least she will assume it was Rich's idea and not mine.

"Okay, if this is the only way I can have my best buddy, then I guess I have to give Maya a chance to prove her worth. Let me send her home." I spoke looking at Rich and I can look at a wide grin on his face, and I wonder if he likes Maya because I don't see him react like a jealous boyfriend, or he is just so confident that Maya likes him and not me. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Maya cringed, and I perceive I took her off guard with my offer she didn't expect me to utter those words.

"Wow! That is great, I don't know what to say, Adonis." Rich replied, and I can tell it disappointed Maya because he didn't insist on driving her home.

"Excuse me, I get it Rich your best friend, doesn't want me, I'd rather walk than be in his car." She spoke after a moment and I look at her, and when she bit her lower lip I wish to stand up and claim her mouth. Her crimson lips are so tempting, and I can see her face blushed when she found me staring at her lips.

"Maya how can we be friends if you will not give me a chance." I said, and I speak more than a whisper.

"How will I know if you are serious this time? I wonder what kind of prank you are planning for me. I am so tired of your stupid games, Young Master Adonis, so I am just asking you to, please stop bothering me and find someone you can play with. Can you look for another target? Aren't you tired of me?" She asked and my heart is aching.

"How will you know I am serious if you won't give me a chance? To be honest, I am tired too, Maya." I said and there are many things I wish to tell her, but I plan on telling her all about it when we were alone.

"Okay, can you listen to me? You are both close to me, so can you at least try to give each other a chance for my sake and Ariana's?" Rich declared, and I didn't reply in words I just nodded my head. If I want Maya to allow me to know her, I realize I need to be silent and let her talk. I guess this is the only means I can convince her I am serious.

"How about you, Maya?" Rich asked her, and I hate the manner he looked at her, which is full of affection. It seems like forever before she replied.

"Okay, I just hope you will not disappoint me, Adonis. I will not just slap you if you are fooling around, I will punch your handsome face if you are just playing with me again." She responded, and I can't stand laughing at her words. I am tall, and I am not bragging, I have not only a pretty face, but I tone my body that is why girls want me to be in my arms. They all love my masculinity.

"Look at you, you are already laughing." Maya said and I can tell I made her irritated, and I stop laughing and stare at her in the eyes.

"Maya, your sexy body is not suitable for melee, rest assured this moment you won't be using force on me, this time I think you only need your sweet lips and soft touch on me." I spoke and wink at her, and I can tell it affects her, her beautiful face flushed, and she turned her gaze away from me, and I can't stop myself from grinning. I got Maya Alva, I just hope my plans will have a smooth outcome for both of us.

"So, what time I am going to take you home?" I asked, and she looked at Rich, and it made me feel a little annoyed since I was the one asking her, and she was looking at Rich for answers, but I know I need to understand her actions, they have been friends for a long while, and it was only understandable that she trusts him.

"You better go home now, Maya, your ankle needs rest since you plan on working tomorrow, but if you still feel uncomfortable, I will tell my mom about your injury." My best friend spoke.

"No, I can work tomorrow Rich, and you know I miss harvesting sunflowers besides, you see I am saving money for college." She replied, and I became more drawn to her. This is what I miss the most, I didn't realize how hardworking she is, and I think there is no turning back now, I am falling for Maya. The feelings I have for her should scare me, but it did the opposite. I want her to be my girlfriend and comfort her all I can.

How can I be so ruthless with her, she was working hard ever since she was a little girl to support her family, while all I did was bring chaos to her life? I realized she deserves to be loved and cherished, and I will make sure I am the one who will make her happy. I can't turn back time. All I need now is to establish the present perfect for her. I could have given her happiness because I know I am her longtime crush. Maybe if I only offered her sweet smiles, I made her happy all those years, but my feelings for her blinded me.

"Okay, but make sure to drink some painkiller if you can't stand the pain." Rich replied while I became speechless. I don't prefer to talk for a while because I am afraid to upset her again, I require filtering my words from now on. I didn't mind how she felt before, but now that everything is clear to me, I don't want anyone to harm her. Likewise, I long to be her protector from now on, and one of these days I need to talk with Rich. Our friendship means a lot to me, but I can't allow him to date Maya.

I will beg if necessary, I will ask him to give way to my feelings for Maya. How I wish I made my choice a long time ago, so it will not reach this point. Now, I can say my twin sister and best friend are right all along, Maya Alva is a great person who deserves love and attention.

"Thank you, Rich, I think I should go since I have to prepare dinner." She said and got up from her chair. Rich helped Maya to stand up and assisted her in going outside the mansion towards my car. I want her first ride with me to be perfect, but it seems my heart is in overdrive. I can go through it hammering under my chest, being alone with Maya makes me get so excited.

I open the car door and Rich settled her on the front seat and I moved fast to sit in the driver's seat. We said goodbye to Rich, and she waved her hand at him while I closed the windows and drove the car away from the Hernandez Mansion. I can glance at the figure of Rich getting smaller as we are drawing farther away from the Hernandez household. I didn't speak while Maya's face is looking at the flower plantation along the driveway.

We are in the middle of the road when I turn my head to stare at her, I pressed the button to lower the roof of my car to feel the fresh air, and she looks so adorable when she opens her arms and closed her eyes feeling the breeze on her lovely face, I am just glad she tied her long black hair with an elastic band before we left the Hernandez Hacienda. And I can't stop myself from looking at her breathtaking beautiful face.
