Chp 69:Heated

Lucas's POV:

This was very unlike the two of them. They were usually quite calm and collected people, but clearly when it came to each other maybe not so much.

My whole body was screaming at me to run away and not look back. To not get involved. And to definitely not become the focus of their new found anger.

But before I knew it my feet had already begun walking towards the two of them and I was in between them. My hands rose on ethier side of me, in a stopping motion to both sides before things became any more heated.

All eyes focused on me in the moment. And their ferocity had subdued a little from what I could tell.

"Listen guys, whatever this is about. You don't need to get so worked up about it. I'm sure there is some sort of misunderstanding between you both. So if we all just cool off a little, maybe we can settle this level headedly."

I ended my statement with a cheerful smile to help win them over. Although I think they were more stunned by me being there then to actually listen to me. Weird.

Rens posture returned to normal and soon Layla became more relaxed too. Somehow I had managed to calm these blood thirsty vamps without even knowing the problem.

Layla was the first to speak breaking the approaching awkward silence.

"It's funny that you're here actually. Cause you're the whole reason for all this conflict recently." She had a bite to her words that were joking with passive-aggressiveness to them.

I let out a nervous chuckle.

"Oh yeah?"

"Layla. It is not Lucas's fault and you know that. we all know whose it is." Ren spoke also with bite in each word. Defending me but then placing further blame on her? I wasn't quite sure what they were talking about but they were definitely arguing about something to do with me, considering Laylas comment.

"What!" Layla yelled drastically, forming her hands into fists and forcing them downwards whilst stomping her foot.

"You think this is my fault!? After everything I've done to help, you see me as the problem!?"

"Yes. If it weren't for your blabbermouth and backstabbing we'd be fine. But nooo, you had to do exactly what we were not going to do, behind our backs."

They had both riled back up again, stepping closer and closer with each hateful line. Squishing me in the middle in between the bickering.

I didn't know if it was their fighting or just me but the air became hot and suffocating. My lungs burnt and my whole body felt like it was on fire.

This sensation was all too familiar to me. Sweat formed on my forehead, my knees started to buckle and my breath became short. Everything was spinning, my head was pounding whilst my ears were pierced with a sharp ringing.

It was only when I collapsed to the floor did the two stop bickering and look at my state. Layla gasped and turned towards me, almost as fast as Ren did.

Ren placed his hand on my forehead, it was cool for a matter of seconds, bringing me a sigh of relief for a brief moment.

Layla reached into her pocket and grabbed a torch out. She held open my eye and shone the torch into my eye. My focus was blurring and I could feel myself fading off. I blanked out after that. The last thing I could recall was a sharp piercing pain on my neck. 'But what was it?'
