Chapter Thirteen - The Car

The morning had come as the crusaders were almost reaching the border between India and Pakistan. During the night, Kakyoin had changed seats with Mr. Joestar, because the pink haired guy had gotten car ill. Of course, (Y/N) had been awake when it all happened and she felt bad for her friend's state, so she took care of Kakyoin as he was asleep, without being caught by anyone else. That was why, while all the others were up and talking about how they would miss India, she was quietly sleeping between Jotaro and his old man.

A red car was slowly driving in front of theirs. The dust getting inside through the window made (Y/N) sneeze, but without waking herself up.

"Quit clogging the road! Outta the way!" Polnareff exclaimed, annoyed by the slow driver. With no more patience, he stepped on the acceleration, being able to pass the red car, with some small rocks flying into it.

Everyone was holding onto something, so they wouldn't bump into eachother, while Jotaro was tightly holding (Y/N) with his muscular arm. As Polnareff slowed down, he let go of the girl, without letting his grandfather see the gesture.

Mr. Joestar looked behind the car, then to the others. "Oi, did you just fleng a bunch of rocks into that car? I'm wanted because of what happened in Varanasi and I want to cross the border in one piece!" The old man seemed very serious, being concerned about the time he had left to save his daughter.

Suddenly, Polnareff stepped on the brake, making (Y/N) wake up, by knocking her head on Kakyoin's seat, Jotaro not being fast enough to catch her. She groaned opening her eyes slightly and rubbing her head. 'What kind of wake up call is this?' she asked herself, her forehead still hurting.

When he was asked about why he stopped the car so suddenly, Polnareff only had two words come out of his mouth. "No way..." he said looking ahead, his eyes widening.

After fully opening her eyes and regaining her vision, (Y/N) looked in the same direction the white haired guy was looking. Her eyes widened as well, but this time of pure joy, seeing Anne outside, hitchhiking. She looked at Jotaro, who was having his cap covering his eyes, annoyed of the situation they were in. "Yare yare daze..." he said frowning a little bit. All the others here shocked, their mouths falling.

Immediately after stopping the car, Anne noticed them, taking off her cap and letting her hair wave into the air. She smiled widely with her eyes closed and proud of herself for seeing Jotaro once again, and spoke with her usual high pitched voice. "Oi! If it happened to meet again, how about a ride!"

At first, (Y/N) was so happy to see the kid again, but after she started talking, everything changed. The female student was having the same face Jotaro was, trying to keep it neutral, so she wouldn't frown. That kid could talk so much and so loud about anything, especially herself, (Y/N's) ears felt like blood could burst out of them in any moment.

After a while, the car that had just been passed by Polnareff was behind them, seeming in a hurry. Opening his window, the French guy gestured with his hand that the car could pass them. After doing so, the red car once again started going as slow as a snail. Mr. Joestar supposed the driver was doing that as a revenge for the rocks that had hit his car earlier. None of them got the driver's face though, the windows of his car being covered in dust. All of sudden, he rolled down his window and gestured that the way was free to pass. Polnareff laughed, getting ready to pass, when a huge truck appears in front of them.

They were all too scared and shocked at the same time to even scream. Then, after Star Platinum was called out by Jotaro, the car flew into the air, ending back on the road, fortunately, no-one getting hurt. "The car! Where did that bastard go?" Mr. Joestar yelled.

(Y/N) was barely breathing at that point, though she was trying to calm herself down. Jotaro glanced at her with the corner of his eye, them spoke disappointedly. "He drove away." After a short pause, he continued. "What do you think? Is he an enemy Stand user or just another sick bastard?"

The old man sighed, turning his head away from the back of the car. Polnareff aswered Jotaro's question, looking at him. "Of course he's one of Dio's lackeys! We almost got killed, God damn it!" Just then (Y/N) managed to take a deep breath and let it out. She didn't say anything, not wanting to interrupt the men's important discussion.

"Let's just continue our way to Pakistan..." Mr. Joestar said, grabbing the bridge of his nose.

(Y/N) turned around and looked at the truck that had hit them. It was smoking a little bit. "What about the truck?" she asked, pitying the poor truck's driver.

Jotaro moved his hat with his right hand and spoke firmly. "We act like nothing ever happened."

"What?!" Everyone looked at (Y/N) as the girl's eyes widened in guilt. "Jotaro, you can't be serious, what if that man is seriously injured?" she tried to calm herself down.

"That's none of our business!" he responded looking away, having the same cold glare in his eyes.

(Y/N's) eyebrows twitched in disgust. She had so many more things to say to him, but she didn't want to make the same mistake she had made last time she had had an argument with the black haired student. 'Why are you always like this? How can you not give a damn about anything?' she thought crossing her arms and taking a deep breath with her eyes closed. As Polnareff started the car once again, she realized that the discussion was far from ended, but she decided that it was better to keep it like that.

After a while, the five crusaders and the kid found a small tea stand on their way and decided to stick there for some time, so they would be able to lose the crazy driver. The place was full of men with thick and muscular arms, each of them drinking something. Mr. Joestar approached the owner of the tea stand, being offered to have taste from a fresh cup of sugarcane juice. Just then, the old man noticed the reflection of the red car on his glass cup. He turned around to see the car with his own eyes, everyone immediately following his actions.

They all gasped. "That car... It's here!" Polnareff exclaimed. When they all got next to the strange man's car, they noticed that no-one was inside, the driver probably being at the tea stand.

"Hey, you!" Mr. Joestar called the tea stand owner, pointing the old red car. "The driver of that clunker over there... Who is it?"

The man looked at the vehicle parked under a tree for a moment, confused. "I'm not sure, sir... I didn't quite notice it either!"

Jotaro and his grandfather's eyes were covered by a shadow as Kakyoin and Polnareff's eyebrows were twitching in anger. (Y/N) kept a neutral-to-frowning face, silent, remaining next to Anne while the men were talking. "Our driver won't just come out and announce it!" Kakyoin stated calmly.

"Then I guess that leaves us with one option, right Jotaro?" the old man asked his grandson.

Jotaro put his cap over his eyes. "Hm." (Y/N) could easily expect what was going to happen next, knowing the student and his ways of dealing with problems for so long. The black haired guy pointed with his finger three men peacefully staying at one table. "Poor innocent bastards... We'll just have to beat them all down!"

As Mr. Joestar, Jotaro and Polnereff grabbed a guy each and started punching him, (Y/N) rushed, trying to stop them. "Oi, Jotaro, stop! This is crazy!" Kakyoin yelled right before her. The girl grabbed her classmate's sleeve. She opened her mouth and was ready to shout at him, when she heard a car engine starting. The two bulky guys stopped looking back, getting shocked by the red car leaving without having anything to do with them.

(Y/N's) mouth fell, just like the others'. She looked away from the rushing car, to Jotaro, who was also having a shocked expression on his face. It was kind of odd to see him like that, but she supposed that maybe he showed his emotions from time to time. He couldn't have always been a tough, emotionless delinquent, there were way more things to find out about him than he showed.

Polnareff couldn't take it anymore. He was so pissed, when he left the tea stand with the car, everyone there got dizzy from the speed he had while driving. Both (Y/N) and Anne were quiet, still sitting in the back, between Jotaro and Mr. Joestar. The female student didn't feel so good about the situation they were in, once again, feeling like something was off. She was almost one hundred percent sure that the crazy driver couldn't have been just another psychopath trying to kill random people on the street; he was definitely a Stand user. He might've even been a dangerous one, if they hadn't been paying attention.

When Polnareff turned right, after the chased red car, Kakyoin noticed that it was the wrong direction. Of course, Polnareff didn't care, being keen on catching that bastard, but everything changed when the French guy suddenly pulled the brake, avoiding to fall down the cliff just in time.

"He's gone!" Mr. Joestar exclaimed, everyone's mouth once again falling in shock.

Kakyoin looked around, noticing that the only way to pass was an old wooden bridge. "There's no way he could've passed the suspension bridge..." He didn't even get to finish his sentence, something roughly hitting their car from behind. They tried to remain calm as the red clunker kept hitting and pushing them closer to the edge of the cliff, but Polnareff couldn't stay calm in that kind of situation. He told everyone to get out of the car, but without thinking, he forgot to pull the brake as well, letting the car fall into the ravine.

(Y/N) immediately hugged Anne to try to protect her from the impact that was going to happen, even though she knew they wouldn't survive to something like that. She closed her eyes tightly, but without screaming like the others.

"Hierophant Green!"

When she heard Kakyoin calling out his Stand's name, (Y/N) happily, but worriedly at the same time, opened her eyes to see what the pink haired guy's plan was. She gasped when she thought that the Hierophant was going to try and hold the car from falling. "Wait, Kakyoin, your Stand can't support this kind of weight! You'll be torn to shreds!"

Kakyoin chuckled at her cautious statement. "(Y/N), I'm not a fool. I am aware of my own abilities..." And with that, when Hierophant Green got next to the red car, he attached the winch to it, stopping the crusaders' from falling.

Relieved, (Y/N) let go of Anne and looked around the car, stopping at Jotaro. He was slightly smiling while looking at the other student. "Hm, not bad!" he said, seeming proud. Using Star Platinum, Jotaro managed to pull the car back on the cliff, in the same time pushing the other one down. Finally, they all got out of the car and looked down at the burning red vehicle.

Mr. Joestar didn't know what to think about this whole situation. It was not like the others knew anything, but he was the most bothered one. "Nothing here suggests that he used a Stand attack, so let's just say he's a weirdo..." he stated looking down the cliff.

"More like a goner, after that fall!" Polnareff continued the old man's sentence.

(Y/N) was still suspicious about one thing. "My question is... How did it get behind us?" Everyone looked at her surprised. They hadn't thought about that at all. "Kind of strange, don't you think?" She had had a weird feeling that something bad was going to happen since they left Varanasi, so she had expected another Stand user to show up.

Suddenly, the radio turned itself on, starting to talk. "It's not strange at all, actually!" The men and girls looked terrified at their talking car. "I was able to do that because the car is my Stand!"

In that moment, (Y/N) realized that the red car might've been the same type of Stand as the ship Strength was.

"Where is he?" Kakyoin asked looking around him, to be sure he didn't miss anything. "Is he sending the signals from the car down there?"

"No way! Have you seen that wreck?" Polnareff yelled.

They didn't know what was going on. (Y/N) took a short glance at Jotaro, who let her know that they were both having the same thoughts about the enemy Stand, by nodding. She nodded back and let the student speak up instead of her. A second after he told the others about the Stand they were facing, she couldn't believe what she had just done. 'Why did I give him my idea?' she asked herself. Though, the girl knew very well that the answer to that question was the fact that everyone listened to Jotaro, if he had something to say and she had to warn the others somehow.

"Behold the Wheel of Fortune!" That was the last thing to be heard before the earth started shaking. The crusaders thought it was an earthquake and wanted to get into the car, until Jotaro and (Y/N) stopped them. Just then, from below their car appeared the red one, throwing theirs into the air.

Polnareff jumped away from that dangerous spot. "If that doesn't proof enough that this car is a Stand, nothing does!"

Too bad he talked. The car trembled for a second, then started upgrading itself to some killing machine, literally. When it started driving straight to Jotaro, the black haired student smirked. "So you wanna see who's stronger?" he said lifting his fist.

"Wait, Jotaro! We don't know his powers yet!" (Y/N) shouted in his direction. Right before the Wheel of Fortune could've attacked, she ran and pushed Jotaro aside, using all of her body's strength at once. They both got shot somehow, but at least she managed to make him avoid some of the 'bullets'. She fell to her knees after being shot in her arms and right shoulder. She felt like she could scream from the pain, but she didn't.

"Jotaro! (Y/N)!" the others yelled.

"Impossible... I couldn't see anything..." He looked next to him and noticed the girl kneeling down on the ground. He almost gasped, but helped her get up without showing any sign of worry.

The red car laughed with a high pitched cracky voice. "Don't know what hit you? You'll find out soon enough!"

Right before the Stand was going to shoot again, Kakyoin and Polnareff showed up next to the two injured students to help them get away. Unfortunately, they got shot in the arms and shoulders as well as Jotaro and (Y/N) who received two more. They all groaned in pain as the car drove away, once again no-one seeing anything.

Mr. Joestar stretched out his arm to put his hand of his grandson's shoulder, but stopped half way through. "Are you alright Jotaro?" he asked seriously worried.

Jotaro huffed and stretched his back. "Don't worry about me." He looked down at (Y/N) and frowned when he saw how badly injured she was, her uniform top being stained with her blood. She was hardly breathing from the pain she must've been in. He wanted to tell her not to do something like that ever again, but he felt like it wasn't the time to do that.

The car started rushing in their direction again. "I'll shoot your legs so you can't move, then run you over!" the Stand user said laughing like a gremlin again.

The only escape they had was to run between some rocks, so that's exactly what they did. However, they didn't expect the car to be able to dig into the rock, so they urgently had to find another way to escape: they had to climb one of the rocks. While the old man took Anne in his arm so they could move faster, Jotaro grabbed (Y/N) and put her on his shoulder. "Jotaro, what are you doing? Put me down, you're injured!" she yelled, but without struggling because of the condition Jotaro was in.

"So are you, now shut up." he said coldly, focusing on the way he was climbing, rather than the discussion with her.

Once they climbed on the cliff, the enemy showed them all that he could do it as well. No matter where they went, he could've followed too, so there was no escape. Jotaro knew that it was time to fight that thing, but he had a plan as well.

"Everyone, get back!" he said confidently, pushing (Y/N) behind him. His coat was waving in the wind.

Behind him, Kakyoin held (Y/N's) arm, so he was sure she wouldn't leave his side. "I get it." he said looking at the black haired student, who was facing the edge on the cliff. "The car's underside might be vulnerable to attack!"

All of sudden, the car flew over the edge of the cliff, putting everyone in front of it in a shadow. Just when Jotaro was ready to hit that car with all Star Platinum's power, the Stand user stopped him. "You're pretty fast, Jotaro, but not too bright!" That angered him even more. "Your bodies reek and you haven't even noticed!" he laughed at them.

Behind, Kakyoin, Polnareff and (Y/N) sniffed their skin and clothes. It was true that, beside the smell of blood, their body seriously smelled like... "Gasoline?" (Y/N) said her last thought out loud.

Jotaro's eyes widened as he finally realized that the thing the Stand was shooting at them with were small amounts of gasoline at high speed, like bullets. He hadn't been trying to wound them, he had been trying to douse their bodies with gasoline. Exactly in the moment when he wasn't paying attention, Jotaro got shot four more times, two in the back and two in the arms, breathing heavily.

Even though it hurt her more than anything before, (Y/N) was struggling to get away from Kakyoin and go help her classmate, but there was no use.

"All you need now is a bit of jolt!" the man inside the Wheel of Fortune said victoriously, ripping of some cables full of electricity.

Jotaro's right shoulder instantly got on fire, every single part of his body ending up the same way. The others screamed his name in horror, seeing him burn down. (Y/N's) eyes were soaked in tears when she saw the boy in that situation, screaming and suffering, her struggle getting stronger. Kakyoin was hardly holding her, while Polnareff had to hold back Mr. Joestar. She kept screaming so loud, her voice was already starting to crack and her throat to hurt, but she didn't stop. "(Y/N)! You're just as drenched in gasoline as he is! You're gonna be lit up on fire if you get closer!"

She watched in terror Jotaro's body slowly burning down and him dying. The tears were running down her face like waterfalls. She fell to her knees starting to regret every single time she had ever insulted or made Jotaro either mad or annoyed. (Y/N) clenched her fists, thinking about how she would revenge Jotaro's poor soul no matter what, while the driver was hysterically laughing. "This is where it all ends!" he exclaimed happily.

"Oh?" a familiar voice was heard. They all lifted their heads, full of hope. "Then who will be taking the place of the one and only Kujo Jotaro?" Suddenly, a muscular arm broke through the rock, Jotaro's head appearing right after it. (Y/N) gasped in amazement and happiness when she saw him. With no more hesitation, the black haired guy brought out his Star Platinum, punching and hitting the car until there was nothing left from it.

In the end, after tying down the enemy Stand user, the crusaders decided that they would take his car, that went from a shiny killing machine to a poor jalopy, even worse than before, just like Strength, but not before taking care of their injuries. After (Y/N) took care of Kakyoin and Polnareff and wanted to help Jotaro as well, she was stopped by him. "Jotaro, let me..." he didn't let her finish her sentence.

"Sit down."

She did as he had ordered, sitting down on a rock without saying anything. Jotaro came up to her with some bandages and alcohol he had found in the wrecked car. He kneeled down next to her and asked her to remove her shirt. "What?" she asked with widened eyes.

"Take off your shirt." his voice wasn't as cold as before, but it still scared her. "It's full of blood and gasoline, and I can't bandage you properly if you have it on."

Before she could do what she was told to, Kakyoin walked up to them, with a concerned smile on his face. "Jojo, if you want, I could take care of (Y/N) and you could rest for a bit!" he offered himself with his soft voice.

"No." Jotaro immediately refused his help. "I'll do it myself."

Why couldn't he just for once accept some help from a friend when he's hurt? 'Why are you like this?' (Y/N) asked herself again, puffing and looking down at the ground, resting her forehead in her hand. As Kakyoin left, she was told once again to take of her shirt, so she did it, more like out of fear.

With scared and insecure eyes, (Y/N) looked down at the ground and took of her shirt, the only thing she had on being her white bra. Everyone looked away, leaving the two students alone. Jotaro got a little bit flushed when he saw her shirtless, but it wasn't noticeable. To be fair, he couldn't get why she was so insecure about herself. Slowly, he started cleaning all of the four wounds from that day, also noticing something like an old deep cut on the girl's right arm. He frowned. "Where's this from?" he asked angrily.

(Y/N) looked at her arm. "Oh... From about a week ago..." she aswered quietly.

"What? Why didn't you say anything?!" Jotaro yelled at her.

"Because it wasn't that important!"

"It could've gotten infected!"

"Since when do you care?!" (Y/N) snapped because of her lack of emotional control. She looked at Jotaro who wasn't saying anything anymore. He looked frozen, just like being once again shocked by one of her unexpected snaps at him. But, after all, she was kind of right about Jotaro's behavior slightly changing around her. They stood there silently, the boy continuing to clean up his classmate's wounds. (Y/N's) body was twitching everytime the alcohol touched her skin, meaning she was still in pain, but she didn't want to say anything. After he bandaged her, Jotaro turned around to let the girl heal him.

(Y/N) got out her Pure Silence and touched the boy's shoulders softly. Jotaro's arms were resting on his legs, his head looking at the ground. Suddenly, he spoke with a furious yet kneading voice. "Never do that again."

The girl was perplexed. "Do what?"

"Never try to save me again. Got it?" he was definitely furious about the whole thing that happened on the cliff, but (Y/N) couldn't quite understand what part was he furious about. Was he furious because she didn't let him be the hero or because she got hurt? Judging by his usual character, the first one was more plausible, but this time it might've been different. She looked at him and wondered what was going on inside his head.

In the end, after she was done with the boys, (Y/N) put on a spare uniform top she had in her bag. They all got into the jalopy they were left with and continued their way to cross the border, or at least to find somewhere to stay at night.
