Such a touching chapter and painful time for Calhoun. His disregard for his paternal grandfather very clear as he throws him out the coffin without any care & lovingly puts his mother in side. That very action exemplifies the two halves of Cal very well - ruthless & cold vs tender & loving. He can change in an instant. Theo & Calâs comradeship is growing - I like the way Theo arrives at the scene and doesnât judge Calhoun about what has happened. He offers to help, when he doesnât really know Cal...maybe Theo has his own agenda for helping because he wants to find out about this exiled prince?? I like how they hardly speak in the carriage but what they say is significant. In volume 1, there was little dialogue between them because they were on the same wave length. This is where it starts.
Calhounâs grandfather was first an angel. Then the feathers were burned off when he made war with heaven. These chapters explained a lot (for me) about what the king endured before he ascended the throne. I shouldnât have been so judgey at the beginning of this story. I decided a few chapters in, that this was simply how a demon would try to win a womanâs heart. But no, this is why he told Madelin that he was attracted to her because he thought she might be his salvation.
