While Lara was panicking in the backseat, Zeel was relatively relaxed. If push came to shove, he could just use his divinity to avoid dangerous situations.
He was fast… faster than Lara could see, so there should be minimum backlash.
However, Zeel's intuition was still unsettled at the moment. He could feel slight suffocation the closer he got to the island.
It was not much, but it was a major cause for concern. Zeel switched the helicopter to manual since the nanites were also beginning to act up.
There was a sudden shift in the gravitational constant, but the nanites would soon adjust.
"Do you feel anything?" Zeel asked Lara confused about the suffocating feeling assaulting his body.
Lara calmed down and took slow breaths like Zeel had previously taught her.
"I am not sure but I feel like I'm going to die," Lara said with a strange look on her face.
Zeel considered her statement for a moment and finally came to a realization, but it was a little too late.
Several missiles were launched from the island at the Helicopter.
The world slowed, Zeel entered a different time zone.
Lara was moving in slow motion as she tried to move from the backseat to the front-seat, attempting to embrace Zeel and jump out of the helicopter.
Zeel did not focus on the slow-moving world around him, instead, he focused on his right hand.
Zeel's right hand slowly became a focal point for transparent lightning.
When he felt that his hand was sufficiently charged, Zeel gestured forward with his hand, and two missiles were immediately destroyed.
While lightning was not his divinity, Zeel could somewhat manipulate the phenomena due to his Speed Divinity.
The world returned to normal as the helicopter shook and briefly spun in the air.
Zeel grabbed Lara and placed her onto his lap. It was the safest place for her to be at the moment.
Lara thought that they would die immediately, but suddenly, lightning struck from the skies and detonated the missiles.
A storm was the perfect cover for his ability, that was why Zeel was not stingy with using lightning at this time.
However, his intuition was still not relaxed. Another couple of missiles were shot, this time it was a barrage with no way out.
Zeel swiftly opened several warps around the helicopter.
This time he utilized his Dimensional Travel divinity to send the missiles into different dimensions entirely.
Usually, he would use warp to cause a spatial displacement but that was not the true purpose of his divinity.
Zeel tried to navigate the helicopter onto the island, but his divinities were suddenly assaulted by an intense pressure.
Both divinities clamped up and retreated into Zeel's body as if they came into contact with the divinity-version of the plague.
A couple of the missiles made it through since the warps had failed mid-action.
Zeel had no time to come up with contingencies and chose the next best option.
Zeel grabbed Lara, rolled out the opposite door of the helicopter, and dove downward immediately.
*BBBOOOOOOMMMM*
Zeel and Lara had not fallen outside the range of the explosion so Zeel felt the impact waves and some shrapnel bombarded his body.
Normally, this would do nothing to his divine body, but the island obviously had a barrier of some kind that suppressed the divinity of Gods.
The blast forced Zeel to release Lara as they both spiraled in different directions.
Zeel went towards the rocky trenches of the island, while Lara drifted to the trees.
Zeel was comforted to see Lara adjust her body in a diving position moments after he released her.
That meant that she had the ability to navigate her body onto an area dense with trees that could aid in her safe landing.
Zeel tried to orient himself in the air but failed.
He was too close to the blast, and the shrapnel in his body was not helping his chances. Luckily, the barrier on this island only accounted for divinities and not technology.
The nanites shifted on Zeel's feet, turning into a pair of Anti-gravity boots.
Still, the interference from the island made calculating gravitational equations almost impossible.
Zeel fell unsteadily with the Anti-Gravity boots, gliding sometimes, falling other times.
*Bang*
*Bang*
*Crack*
Two trees and many rocks were needed to stop Zeel's momentum from the blast.
"Arrgh," Zeel moaned in pain.
One shrapnel in his leg, multiple in his shoulder, and a broken arm from the collision with a rock.
Being a God was not as awesome as humans made it out to be.
Zeel suspected that the island would have a form of protection, but this was out of his expectations.
The island was supposed to be a gateway to the next Universe, but this island was probably once the home of a God of Death.
Possibly the same God of Death that Zeel was currently hunting, the same Being that took Homo-Superior Aether.
Zeel laid back on the rock after double-tapping his Mbeamer. The Mbeamer liquefied and slithered to the wounds on Zeel's body.
"Prognosis?" Zeel asked.
The Mbeamer split apart and solidified the various wounds on Zeel's body.
The Red Queen scanned the wounds and soon the shrapnel was ejected from Zeel's skin.
The lacerations on his skin began to repair at speeds visible to the naked eye.
Still, it was substantially slower than Zeel's own healing factor.
"Your healing factor and divinities are suppressed. I believe your divinities are also leaking into the nearby environment. The longer we stay on this island, the weaker you will become.
The nanites can heal your injuries, but adequate nourishment is needed to supply the energy required if you plan on getting more injuries.
Sunlight cannot suffice for lacerations and bone injuries," The Red Queen reported after finishing her scans.
Zeel's Mbeamer liquefied and traveled back to his wrist.
Zeel stretched his body and indeed found that his broken arm was still slightly agitated. The repairs were happening, but it was moving incredibly slow.
He needed to find something to eat right away.
Luckily, the nanites could convert almost anything to energy, including poison and dirt, though dirt was not very practical.
Zeel walked to a nearby tree and began eating the leaves.
That would suffice to provide enough energy to fully repair his right arm.
While enjoying his vegetarian meal, Zeel heard footsteps coming towards his location. Zeel urged the nanites in his body to form three daggers in his hand.
Zeel closed his eyes and keyed into the sounds of the forest.
Suddenly, Zeel's eyes snapped open, three daggers were thrown in different directions.
Then three thuds were heard consecutively. The targets had already been eliminated.
*Pop*
Zeel felt a stinging pain in his shoulder and fell to the ground.
A man slowly walked out of the nearby shrubs. This man clearly had snipper training judging from his outfit and aura.
He remained extremely still while everyone else moved.
Still, that should not have been enough to elude the senses of a God, much less a Homo-Superior God.
Zeel coughed up blood, the bullet hit his scapula and fragmented inside his body.
The damage was increasing by the second. If he was a normal human, he would have already died from bullet shards bouncing around inside his body.
Luckily, the nanites were readily working to repair the injury, but that would leave him defenseless for a while.
The sniper felt something amiss and quickly wanted to retreat to a secure position, but a knife had already crossed his throat.
Lara stood behind the sniper, slightly pale in the face but still managing to breathe.
"The first kill is always the hardest," Zeel said between mouthfuls of blood.
Lara knelt next to Zeel and checked his injuries "Doesn't seem serious,"
"Yeah, I'll be on my feet soon," Zeel replied observing Lara "You seem well yourself,"
"Yeah, a couple of trees slowed me down enough to stick a landing. My hand is fractured but it doesn't hurt as much," Lara replied.
Zeel also understood that her body was healing itself.
Lara picked Zeel up and carried him on her back. Zeel was deceptively light for someone of his height and build.
"I found a cave more inland. I managed to kill a jaguar before coming here," Lara bragged.
"How did you find me?" Zeel asked confused.
They crashed at least ten miles apart. It was believable that Lara could get to his location that fast, but it was unlikely that she could find him that easily.
"I don't know. I somehow just knew where you …"
Lara did not finish her statement, Zeel's hand had already penetrated her chest, holding her beating heart in full display of her eyesight.
*Pop*
Zeel crushed the heart in his hand.
