Was Gam really able to defeat those trainers before him? Nidorana is poison and ground type if I remember correctly, you could have taught her mudslap or mudbomb to counter thunder or thunder wave. You are going to tackle a gym so you should have planned a proper strategy. Heck! Even rock tomb can slow down Staryu's speed. Plus, knowing that Nidorana doesn't have any long range attacks and is slow when compared to Staryu, why did you even choose her? No offense but this chapter is absolute crap, plot vice.
Anyone who had played Firered or Greenleaf will know what to expect, while surely Nidorana is not a bad choice, I don't see any reason for Gan to use her really. First, she has a level disadvantage; second, she doesn't have any long-range attacks; third, she is slow when compared to her opponent. While there is no direct type disadvantage, I don't see how Nidorana can will especially when Staryu can always hide in the water to avoid any direct hits from her.
Kiirii:Nidorina is poison type not ground type, she gain ground type when she evolve into Nidoqueen. Poison point can be great and nidorina is a little bit tanky so it's not a really bad choice. He probably didn't expect Staryu will have Thunder Wave (TM).
I can somehow understand both sides. I personally found this fight not very good but not because the Mc lost but because I felt that his strategy was much worse than in his last fight which confused me a bit. but i think that sometimes the opinion of the readers doesn't make sense if they don't try to remain objective. It is sometimes more important whether you think this fight is logical and the Mc acted logically for his character. For example, I personally don't see any problem with the defeat of Alex in my novel, even though half of the comments were about the mistakes that Alex made. If you look at these comments with an open mind and think that they are very subjective, you don't always have to agree with the opinion of your readers. You have to decide for yourself.
