Chapter 78

"Hey Bright, Brennan, we're going to our school! Those uniforms look great on you!" Nick said as they all walked towards the school one afternoon the day after Christmas. Nathan and he devised a plan for them to be able to watch the annual concert that has been the tradition of their school- which was only open for their students. The tradition has been cut out on the last 3 years because of the war that had the population of the entire earth declining- however, their school was pretty huge- and it was competitive enough that it can stand on the same level of an elite school. The two visitors were forced to wear their all-black uniform which was really unbefitting to the celebration.

"Is it really necessary for us to wear these?" Brennan asked and Nathan fixed his eyeglasses in a very fashionable way that it looked like it was glowing [like that of an anime character who had just thought up of a very nice idea] and he laughed as he cleared his throat. "But the design of your uniform is nice. I like it."

"It's one of the reasons why I went ahead and transferred at this school." Nathan said and fixed the scarf Josephine gave him. The others received hand-knitted scarfs as well and they were all wearing it. Bright was silent as he was trying his best not to show his nervousness because as a chosen who was supposed to give peace in the society, he was not supposed to be involved with any kind of fraudulent acts yet there he was, happily grinning as he was walking together with individuals to a festival he will experience for the first time on earth. He was thrilled and he hid his happy grin behind the blue scarf he was wearing. However, their group cannot let go of the fact that Brennan returned so early in the morning in his house hours away and returned with his small black dog named Doggy who was left again at Josephine's care. They made fun of him for having an 'unrequited love' for his dog but he couldn't care less since he knew that it was some kind of a 'belonging' joke for he feels like he belongs to the circle. They walked past the wooden bridge that never failed to amaze Bright and Brennan and after that, they all arrived before the gate where many students organizations were already welcoming the students. Mari held Joy's hand and they smiled at each other.

"Nice hair you got right there." Mari complimented her and smiled. Joy dyed her hair with dark gray which had Bright almost dying because of heart attack the moment he saw her. He also questioned her why her hair turned dark silver in just one night and they rest of the group laughed at him for not realizing that it was hair die. Bright had himself embarrassed because he thought that Joy had remembered everything because of her hair- like Yvan's- but the highlights that she had before were hidden by her new hair color.

They were recollecting the funny moments that happened that day when one of the student council welcomed them and led them towards the pitch-black auditorium. Brennan and Bright had no idea what was happening that they almost believed that they were abducted the moment they reached the seat that the usher had reserved. Bright heard the voice of Nathan from his back.

"Hey. Don't be nervous. I can feel you shaking. We don't eat humans." He said and patted Brennan's shoulder as they proceeded with care on the alley of theatrical chairs that was built on the tiles. A gust of cold wind from the AC had Bright shivering before he could even sear. Since phone was prohibited in their location, they weren't allowed to use them so they tripped until they successfully found their seat.

"Bright! Be careful! We can't see anything!" Nick said as Bright bumped at him.

"What a comfy seat!" Bright said and closed his eyes as he endured the coldness he felt. "When's this gonna start?"

"Ladies and Gentlemen. Welcome to Rendition Theatre. The show is about to start in a few minutes. Please let the Ushers guide you to your seats. Just a friendly reminder! Please refrain from using your phones because it might jam the communication system- moreover, please refrain from taking pictures and videos. If there is an emergency, there are numerous exits on your left and right, on your back, and on the side of the stage. Drinking, smoking, and use of dangerous substances are prohibited." The person from the technical team announced at the speaker through the microphone. There was a loud silence that enveloped the entire theatre and the people were starting to become restless. Bright was starting to get a good night's sleep when the light hurt his eyes even when they were closed. He opened his eyes and he gave it time to adjust to it's surroundings when a band started to perform, and all the people were already clapping and cheering. The stage and walls were decorated with beautiful and huge flowers and banners and the walls looked so happy with their banderitas and displays. The auditorium was so big and there were many people and if one would look at the entire venue in bird's eye view, he would look like an ant. He looked at his right and he saw Nick and Mari with one empty seat beside him, and to his left were Nathan and Brennan and the latter looked so amazed that his jaw seemed to be dropping anytime he lose control. There were so many lights and confetti that surrounded the place- and despite the cheering of the whole school, the audio were still clear- and it was a live band! The auditorium was divided in to 2- the left and right atrium and in the middle was a walkway. They were seated at the middle of the left side and his eyes were blurry because of the lights, but when his vision recovered, he saw who the bass player was- it was Joy and she was killing it! She looked so versatile and talented on stage she looked like she was the most beautiful there- and that gave Bright a pang on his chest. He remembered Light and he wished for him to see her doing music. Their band was complete- it has vocalists and back-up voices, drummer, bassist, dancers, guitarists, and synth [keyboard]. Their song wasn't familiar to him because the band made it- but the entire crowd enjoyed it so much that all of them were clapping to the beat of the drum and jumping at the command of the vocalist and because of that, he remembered the place where he came from before being a chosen.

"That song was DOPE!" Nick and the others said as Joy went back to her seat, panting heavily after performing 4 songs. She just smiled so wide to them and took a great rest on her seat. The emcees were having people participate on 'bring me' game and the two- Brennan and Bright desperately looked at the participants who were having great times because they can't join the fun because of the risk of being caught for sticking their noses on other school's business.

They don't regret it.

However, Bright had enough of the coldness so he decided to go to the bathroom and he had Nick watch for his seat. Just as he was about to pee, a familiar voice spoke.

"Nice school isn't it?" the person asked.

"So you are here too. How are you Yvan? By the way, how did you get in?" Bright asked.

"I look like a teacher and the necklace is still powerful." Yvan said while he made a nasty grin. He was quite pleased with himself but Bright thought of a nice slap back.

"It's because your hair has silver. Aren't you aware that you lool like a senior citizen because of that hair?" He said and Yvan glared at him.

"You just don't appreciate beauty. By the way, the performance after the current skit will be interesting." Yvan said as he looked at the huge mirror and admired his reflection- but he stole a glimpse of Bright's necklace and he sighed in relief because it was still white. "Make sure you don't run to the stage because you don't want the student body to be aware of certain outsiders, right? Just a reminder. She's not who you think she is. Don't be impulsive. Gotta go!"

Bright followed him with his gaze and saw that he stopped smiling as he turned away from him. He did not mind him because he believed that he really was weird. He washed his hands and left the restroom to see if the funny skit was finished but it was still halfway. He didn't mind because the performers were really good and they didn't seem like they were beginners. He went back to his seat and felt refreshed.

The auditorium was filled with laughter and cheering as the skit progressed but even if Bright was laughing along, he can't forget what Yvan told him. He tried searching for him but he failed because the auditorium was full of spectators.

The skit was finished and the emcees took over the stage again. While Bright was busy scanning the room, the next performance was called- and they're the musical team. Bright did not pay attention to the team because he was busy, but when the curtains dimmed again, and he was forced to focus on the stage because searching for a person who doesn't even want to be found was an impossible task more so in the dark.

However, focusing on the performance startled Bright due to the fact that there was one person who looked exactly like his sister.

"Tw- twinqu-"
