Chapter 20: The Dinner to Remember

"THIS IS THE MOST AWESOME THING!" Nathan exclaimed and punched Light lightly in his shoulders. "I thought I was going to forget everything but I still remember every single thing that happened today!"

"Uh what's happening?" Nick asked Light.

"I told you earlier that his memory of me would be blurry and he wouldn't recognize me, and the possibility of having him remember me is that he might eventually search for me and that is dangerous because once he touched me, he will remember everything that happened and my identity will be revealed." Light explained.

" So why did you touch me?" Nathan asked. Nick nodded.

" I am your first friend, remember? And you said that you don't want me to take that memory from you. I trust that you won't tell anyone about this Nathan and Nick. " Light replied and washed the pots that Nick used while he was cooking their food- now he is preparing the table.

"What will happen if-"

"I'll be forced to abort the mission and dissipate into nothingness." Light interrupted Nick who fliched when he heard the coldness in his tone- and he broke the plate he was holding. Nathan was taken aback by the intensity of Light's punishment. Both of them froze for a moment.

" It's a joke. People wouldn't believe the both of you even if you talk about my identity in public." Light said and left them to get the broom and dust pan while the two had their jaw dropping because of shock.

"Why you little-" Nick nearly threw him a glass because he did not expect Light to joke around. "I called Mama to tell her that I am sleeping over because we don't have classes tomorrow. You can't go home now that it's dark- you were asleep for about 3 hours. You should probably call your guardians." he said and Nathan took his black flip phone from his pocket and called his parents while Light returned and cleaned the mess.

" Light, is your mission with Nathan done yet? " Nick asked.

" Yeah. The clock had disappeared from my necklace, meaning that I don't have any missions at hand." Light said and took away the broken pieces of plate.

"My parents let me sleep over. They were happy in fact- that I have friends now, but nothing changed with the bullies." Nathan said sadly. "My house is near here though. I'll just pass the two short streets heading north and it's my house."

"You're house is nearer here but why do you study at the next town?" Nick asked as Light came back and sat at his chair.

"I wanted to see the beautiful scenery." Nathan replied. "I want to transfer here now."

"But you are just running away from your problems." Nick said.

"If that running away would mean staying away from the things that makes me sad, why wouldn't I take the risk?" Nathan answered.

"Good thinking." Nick said and looked at the foods in front of him but they heard a knock on the door. "You should score at least 85 out 100 in the test they will give you if you want to be in our class."

"May I come in ?" A familiar voice spoke.

"You and Joy are neighbors?" Nathan asked and was surprised.

"Yeah we are." Light replied. "Come on in. The door is open."

Joy wasn't shocked to see the three of them together because of Light's mission, but what shocked her is the fact that Nathan takes casually to Light which he was supposed to have forgotten. Nathan's name had disappeared from her necklace but why is this happening -

"What's that?!" Nick approached Joy and took the container she held. "Woah! This is my favorite! Did Nana Josephine cook this? She really is the best?" Nick said and leapt in front of the table. "Wanna eat?"

"No actually, I have to go now." Joy said and left while the three of them shouted a big thanks.

"Is your house near here Nick?" Nathan asked as he reached for the fried pork. "And who are you living with?"

"I live alone. My mama and papa works overseas. It's getting sad these days 'ya know, not having anyone to talk to~" Nick said and sighed. "That's why I love going to school because of my friends and Mari."

"You can always come here." Light said. "I live alone too and yeah, it's lonely."

"Hey!" Nick yelled and threw a light punch in his shoulder. "Stop that! I might live here if you say that."

Everyone laughed so hard as they ate their dinner, and to Nathan, it was the happiest moment of his life, having spent time with his first friends.

"You don't have classes tomorrow right? Do you want to go with me to school to pick up my papers?" Nathan asked.

"You sure are worked up." Nick said. "Did you even ask your guardians about it?"

"They've been aware of the bullying that happens to me and they were searching for schools for me to attend, so basically, their job's done. I need my parents tommorow because we will talk to our principal, so you would meet them."

"Well, because of that, thank you Nathan for volunteering for the dishes. Good night." Nick said as he and Light stood up from the table and left Nathan.

"It's so pretty here!" Nick exclaimed as the wind embraced him as the three of them boarded their bikes and strolled towards the road with the shore on its side. "It's not my first time to go here but this scenery is always a surprise for me."

"I know right." Nathan said and advanced to the top as he passed Light and Nathan. "Let's race!"
