You Love Her

GRACE

I know Kai is right. I know that I can't take back what I said to Nicky this morning, and I know that what I did to Jane was even worse. I felt like I was cheating on someone I wasn't even dating. When Jane  told me to meet her later, I didn't even hesitate to accept her offer.

'Damnit Grace!!!! You idiot!!'

I grip my hair and crouch down on the ground. "Fuuuck!!" I can't believe myself! I sigh trying to figure out what I'm going to do. After a while of sitting here feeling sorry for myself I stood up and stared at the sky, the sun had already set. I sigh and head back to the Diner. When I arrive Jane is already standing outside waiting for me.

'here goes nothing.'

I walk over to her, she spots me and smiles brightly.

"Hey there you are! I was worried you wouldn't show up." I smile and shove my hands in my pocket. She chuckles and shakes her head already knowing my intentions. "You're not going to come with me are you."

Even though it was more of a statement rather than a question I still answered.

"No I'm not. But I feel you need an explanation… Rather than an excuse."

She stared at her feet and nodded. "What I said this morning about you being a beautiful woman, I meant it, and I do find you very attractive. In fact when I agreed to your offer, I had Every intention of following through." I stepped closer to her taking her chin tilting her head to look into her eyes. "But I know that I can't." I cup her cheek and in return she nuzzled into it.

"I know." She looked up at me with pain filled eyes. "I know you love her." My eyes widened and my heart jumped.

"Y-you know?" She nodded, taking my hand and pressing it close to her face.

" I've tried for years to chase after you. And for years I've been silently, and unknowingly rejected." My heart ached for her. All this time I had no idea. She took a deep breath.

"And that's why today, when you finally returned my endless flirting, all I wanted was to make you mine as fast as I could. But that was wrong of me. I'm sorry." I shook my head and pulled her into my arms hugging her tightly.

"No I'm sorry. I had no idea. I'm so dense and air headed. I'm sorry Jane." She held me tighter, softly crying.

"I'm sorry Grace. promise me this won't hurt us right? Promise we're still friends right? Please Grace please!" Tears fall from my eyes as I nod, pulling her closer.

" I promise." We stayed there like that for a long time comforting each other, that by the time we parted the sky had lost all it's light except for the full moon hanging low in the sky. I began walking toward the library when I heard a voice calling out for me. I turned around to find Jane running and waving.

"Hey Grace!!" She finally caught up to me, out of breath. "Hey… hooo… man… you're a lot faster than I thought…."

I tilt my head smiling at her. She held up her hand and finally caught her breath. "Look. Whatever happened between you and her. Just fix it okay? You'll feel a lot better, and you might even get some sleep." My smile faded.

"H-how did you-"

"Come on when I saw you today you were as pale as a ghost. You almost look like a skeleton with eyeballs! Kai warned me not to say anything but I was worried about you." I smile at her.

"Thank you Jane. And I'll try, but I think I really screwed up this time." I stare at the ground unable to face her. She takes my cheeks forcing me to look at her.

" Maybe so. But I know that if she loves you as much as you love her… she'll forgive you. Just don't give up on her, and don't stop showing her how much you love her." She lifts up on her tippy-toes, placing a soft kiss on my lips before running away.
